I live in Saint Joseph on the river, right in between Brian's Marina and Anchors Way Marina. Also have know Bob at Pier 1000 since 1988, and have know Tige at Pier 33 for a bit longer than that.
I keep the Carver at Brian's inside heated.
Fly NetJets into Benton Harbor! I thought I saw a Global leave there.
There's plenty of hotels there and I am sure if you call them up they will make you a super deal for a multi-night stay in January, especially the ones not on the highway, There's a decent hotel "downtown" that's probably 80 bucks a night in January. Great breakfast restaurant a block away - Thornton's Hometown.
Burgers and a hundred beers on tap at Bucks a block more away. Just had a chocolate stout there the other day. Yum. A micro brew also a block away - but right now it's down for remodeling; may be done by the time you visit.
It's a very small town, but plenty of places for great food and brew. There the Livery across the river, another micro-brew. A little south there's a half dozen more.

Thanks - Tighe @ Pier 3 3 emailed me today as he is one of the contacts for the classes at his Marina plus setting the venue up .
This is facility I am not familiar with at all nor never been in that area during winter time.
I have to admit I am the lamest party person by far also somewhat limited on the expense receipts so I am trying to plan this not using an open wallet. Thanks for the info.

My old man works at pier 33 lol
not sure how long you are staying but if its for awhile I'm sure you could get a nice off season condo for really cheap if you hunt around a bit...just a thought...I work at the nuke plant in Bridgman which is not far from st joe and theres houses all over down here for monthly and weekly rentals for nuke plant contractors...just another option

No sarcasm fonts, I was kidding about net jetting into Benton Harbor.
If it's too expensive to fly into south bend or the zoo, mdw in Chicago is about an hour and three quarter drive so long as it's not the rush hours.
Pier 33 is a nice facility. You'll see warhawk there as well.
