Default Is the boating season getting shorter?

I grew up on the south shore of Lake Ontario and remember swimming and waterskiing on the Canadian May (Victoria Day) long weekend in the 80s and early 90s. The reported water temp on Lake Ontario today is around 7 C or 44 F. My neighbour told me that pieces of lake ice were washing ashore by their cottage on Georgian Bay last weekend where the reported water temp is 2C or 36F. Is even been too cold to wax my boat. When I returned to southern Ontario in ‘99 we were on the water as early as mid April. Hopefully we’ll see a warming trend soon and can salvage June.

I agree, seems to be the same length but just not getting nice weather until halfway through June and going straight through September now. It seems to have shifted later. I know I wont be getting into the water this Memorial weekend.....bet it's barely 55 degrees! It has been very cold this spring, even the trees and such seem to be behind. I'm debating on even taking the boat up to the cottage this weekend or just go stay up there and do yard work I've been putting off, because naturally that is all behind due to the cold weather also.

Well a little later start than usual. Splashed the Fountain into Georgian Bay on June 7 and the water was too cold for swimming, but started to warm nicely through June. Just got back from a great day on the water and going back in a few days. Let’s hope the hot weather lasts through September and everyone has a great season. Winters are getting harder as I get older. Be safe and have fun...
