26 Hustler with surface drives
 

Does anybody know how many 26 Hustlers were built with surface drives?

Not sure, but I was looking at a nice red one on the east coast a while back. It was awesome.

The red boat is mine. I was just wondering how many of the 26s were built. I was told the one that I have is the only one that performed correctly. The boat ran 87.3 yesterday before I winterized it. Not bad for a 1986 boat with small blocks.

I sold a few in Europe. The fastest ran 90mph with a 640HP engine and Bravo XR.

Did they have the ASD6 drive?
How were they in rough water?
When I bought my boat in 1990 it ran 90 on my radar gun. I detuned the motors a little (dropped the timing and when up on the jetting) to make them live longer. It will run 85 anytime I want it. The reliability has been awesome. The drives are bulletproof. Most people that I talk to do not favor the surface drives but I love them. One of these days maybe I will find a 40 with surface drives.

Got any pics? I love the way they look. What HP can they hold and how are they when you are docking?

cougar25 I believe the drives are rated for 600HP
As for Docking? You have to practice, they do not reverse as well as a stern drive but I do not have any problems docking the boat. You just have to take your time if there is a strong wind or tide.
One of the drawbacks to surface drives is hangout out in swallow water. People walking around the boat can easily hit the propellers if they don't know the boat has surface drives. Also if you are pulling a speed skier the rooster tail is long.
Otherwise Bulletproof!!!!
