Speaking from experience would be lucky to break 90, realistic 87-89 mph tops.

Re: 388 w/ 600s - top speed?
Strip, long story short, I had Co. # A pull my 500 efi's out and install supposingly 572's rated at 700.Could not get past 89.Pulled motors , had them dynoed, Guess what? 604 hp.Told them to pull out there junk and put my stockmotors back in.That was september of 05, cost me $5,000 for that debacle.Spring of 06 took the 500 efi's to Co. B , R & R heads, install stage two whipple's , now were running a true 93-95 gps props spinning out, way to loose. Tried spinning in this past weekend, different attitude, have yet to whinde out, still playing with fuel pressures. This is our fourth summer with this particular unit. Took in in on trade in 03 for my 37 talon which use to run 138 gps, You know happy wife/ happy life, needed head facilities for the girls.

Re: 388 w/ 600s - top speed?
with the stock 500 efi's most would agree boat runs 83-85
with the 525efi's (most dyno @ 540) boat runs approx 87-89 a true 600 horse should put this boat at 93-95 in about 2 weeks I will tell you first hand what a real 700 will push it to |
Re: 388 w/ 600s - top speed?
After 28 yrs of performance boating and hearing bull**** stories or reading them on this site about how fast the guy next door's boat runs, I ususally don't respond but I figured this time I would make an exception. You want to know how this unit will perform call Joe. He's a no bull**** kind of guy.I personally know two other 99/2000's 388's with over 800 hp , best they have seen is 96/97 on GPS with alot of dialing in. Glenns , invest in a good GPS that works unless you want to fool yourself into a false sense of speed by reading your pitot mounted speedo. By the way with your 700hp you won't break a true 94 mph.

I was told with turning the props in gives it more stern lift which the 388 has too much of, but Joe said try it and see, I haven't yet. I have noticed above 97 you have to drive it like a bass boat trying to keep it from chine walking. That's one thing Joe told me, there is not a 388 Hustler bravo boat out there that's been above 105 , I am starting to believe him :( player do you have any picks of your set up I would like to see them :D Keep us posted on on the prop set up!! Rob :D |
Re: 388 w/ 600s - top speed?
Rob, spinning out is O.K. for the 500's, it lifts the stern to lessen the wetted surface. When this boat was designed it revolved around the 500 hp's. With the upgraded power( Whipple stage 2's) at 93-94 the back end is aired out to much and rocks, I would 'nt call it chinninig because it seems to be running off of the first step if you hang over the side to view and if you chop the throttles back to quickly it snakes. Now spinning in like the outerlimits has sucked the back end down giving it a little more bow lift and better running atitude. In 3-4 footers it seems to land better and slip # are better.I will be doing a W.O.T run shortly.I'll post results.Anyway the best thing about this package, we now run all day 4000-4500 with speeds averaging between 75 - 80mph, boat looks modern not like the same 20+yr. manufactured units with redisinged bottoms and ususally your the only one at the bar with a 388.

Re: 388 w/ 600s - top speed?
I must be mixed up.I thought turning in gave more stern lift???
Yes I like being the only boat like mine in the area :drink: |

Re: 388 w/ 600s - top speed?
GLENNS good luck with that 90 mph mark with A 600 hp /side set up
Joe did that dual helm 388 and 525 with arneson's ran 92-93 .. strip spin them in with 5 blades!! we got ours to run like a dream .5 up on tabs and 2.5 up on drive trim (1-2 foot chop) and it's oh so nice to drive...3-4 footers real good no chine, or rocking flys better and lands better ... s.k. used to like being the only hustler @ our fav watering hole but there's a new 388 in town I think it's the one that was for sale with 600 hp from the east cost...for 105 k hope he wants to engage ... will be fun.. maybe I can get old man player to engage too ;)...later Player :) |
Re: 388 w/ 600s - top speed?
S.K., nothing like stirring the pot, tell you what, you watch our north border, I'll watch the south - as the older bull let's walk down rather than run down the hill --------- well you know the rest.
|
Re: 388 w/ 600s - top speed?
Wasn't trying to stir the pot, and I have no first hand knowledge of what it will run with 600 or 700's. But it is amusing that the boat only picks up a limited amount of speed with alot more power. I sure hope I'm not dissapointed in a couple weeks. Am I wrong to say that a stock 388 with 500efis is a 83-84mph boat and wasn't 007 running like 88-89 with 525efi's?

Re: 388 w/ 600s - top speed?
The V10 boat was already sold in April. I just ordered the same setup (388 - V10 - Arneson) again.
I delivered a 344 some weeks ago to a customer, it had only Twin 375HP 496Magnums installed and ran 80mp/h! heiko Attached a picture of the V10 boat |

Re: 388 w/ 600s - top speed?
Glenns, what happened in regards to your post # 9.We are all still waiting to hear results.
|
Re: 388 w/ 600s - top speed?
player, I guess my 2 weeks was a little premature. If you go back and do a search in the general forums there are a couple of pics of my new motors done at Wesco Racing Engines in Michigan. But I haven't put them in the boat yet, so I really haven't been able to prove you wrong yet. :D :D Anyway living in the midwest it wont be till spring till I get to find out the truth. And yes I agree with you about REAL SPEED my stock 500efi boat has ran past many supposed 90mph boats  Till the spring, heres to hoping that your wrong. Take Care

How is the Slingshot in rough water??
This is the one we built 725s for. About 103 and shes done. |
Re: 388 w/ 600s - top speed?
They have a good ruff water ride. Not the best, but it will get you home. We've had our's out in some pretty nasty stuff. You have to remeber they only weigh 8500 lbs.
