Slingshot A/C install

Planning to install A/C in our Poker Run edition this summer and have a few questions?
(1) Is 5000 BTU large enough? (Not looking to turn cabin into a ice box just make it comfortable 80deg. at night with 80deg. water temp.)
(2) Considering 110 volt A/C vs. 12 volt D/C.
(3) Best location to mount self contained unit (under V-berth vs. port or starboard closet.)
(4)Best location to mount raw water clam intake for water circulation pump (engine bilge vs. mid ship under Cabin step)

Any other helpful tips appreciated

Thanks Steve

I am considering installing under where the sub woofer is, but thought the cabinet might make a easier install to run ducts and water lines. Want it to be right though.

I don't think that you will be happy with a 5k unit. It will take forever to get cold and then overwork the unit. Min. size 7500k but to do it right a 10k would be the best.

James is right, 5k really isnt worth the trouble, not for a cabin your size, I just finished installing a Cruisair 12k reverse cycle, yes a bit overkill, but I got a heck of a deal on it, helps to know a distributor, the install is very time consuming, lots of tight spots and to run the duct, tube and electrical, I pretty much had to gut the cabin, a couple tips, overkill the pump, mine called for a 250, but the cruisair rep agreed its best to spend a little extra for the 500gph pump, double hose clamp everything, also put a T connector b/w the strainer and pump with a ball valve, and a couple feet of tube and hose connector, so if something gets stuck in the strainer, you hook a hose up, open up the valve and flush the strainer. This is helpful if a jelly fish gets up in there in the middle of the night and your wife knocks you upside the head and tells you to do something, the AC isnt working.
Good Luck,
Rick
