Default Prop Suggestions For 388

I just had the 500 efi's in my '02 Slingshot rebuilt and stepped up to 600's with the Tyler Crockett package. For anyone running approx 600hp - what props are you running ... assuming no changes to the rev limiters? Any input is appreciated.

I would of raised the rev limiters!! I was turning my 500efi 5400 stock,I think I saw Dustin Whipple post that they make power to 5600 stock around 540hp.Did Tyler dyno it and what rpm is peek hp?

The 388 comes stock with1.50 30's,ya might step up to 32's or labed 32's.or buz it

I went up in power around 80-100hp each went from 28-to 30's it would still pull the 30's to 6k then I tried some 32's it felt lazy, loading the drives harder, still ran the same speed at the 30's but at 55-5600rpm,hope this helps,Rob

Thanks for the input Rob. Tyler put together the upgrade kit, but my builder in NJ bolted it on with the rebuild. No dyno but Tyler insists, even with stock heads, motors will be at approx 600hp. Rev limiter remaining the same was Tyler's call. Haven't pushed past 5000 rpm yet ... trying to behave on the break in. I have labbed bravo one 30's that I sent to bblades to tweak for the added hp. Seems like they won't be enough blade for the increase hp. @ 5k I'm only seeing 80mph - I would have expected 84-85. I thought 32's would be the way to go, but your experience with them @ similar power wasn't great.

Can you give a little more detail on the engine upgrades. I would like to upgrade after 1 more season. Keep us updated on the prop testing.

Rob
Have you done any testing with any 5 or 6 blade props? I know our boats become more of a handful past mid-90's will 600 hp put me in that range, more concerned with cruise speed.

Thanks Steve (didn't mean to hijack)

We had stretched bravo 30s on ours, 1.5 gears, imcos on stelling boxes. These were the best running props for the boat, do not know who did them and what they did, they came with it. The only neg thing was they ran more rpm cruising than what we liked. Motors were dynoed at 640.

Boat ran 92 on gps, light load, and still had some more left.
Good luck with the boat, just takes time and patience.

Ben

Hi Ben,
Do you recall the rpm at 92?

Thanks Steve

I believe it was some where around 5200 rpm Fred. Was not in the boat at the time.
