Its an indispensable nav aid in my book. I refuse to go ocean running without a radar as I cross the busiest port on the west coast (long beach) with unpredictable visibility. I often take families and business partners on trips and am looking for 100% situational awareness under any condition day or night. At night on big lakes its super helpfull seeing the shoreline as well as who is where without lights on. When I combine the Radar with AIS and GPS data concurrently the only captain with better situational awareness than me is captain Kirk. Uncle Dave |

Uncle Dave[/QUOTE] That is the coolest! What would be the minimum height for the radar dome to do it's job? Could it mounted on the deck and still have enough "site"? |

This table tells you what your radar horizon is at what height off the water. You don't want a magnetron radar spraying in your face- a broadband radar ok. The output of a maggie can damage corneas. Mine is a 4KW mag type. Uncle Dave |
