Anyone try hydro P5xs on a 388
Anyone ever try hydromotive P5x,s on a 388?
|
Tom,I have only used Bi 4 blades and Max 5 blades. Max's were great in the mid range, but I didn't like the stress on the prop shaft....
|
New style thick blade B1 merc's work good
tried P5X no go p5's ok not the best 5 blade herrings the best |
So you like the 5 blade hearings the best on a 388? What power and what was you top speed ?
|
I have 1 in imco lower,s and my prop slip is at 20%. I'm running a custom bravo 4 blade .

750 dyno hp (no accessories no marine headers) 5250 rpm 1.5:1 XR stellings boxes at neutral position 32P 5b herrings Empty (1/8 fuel)101-102 GPS October 30th cold water, driver only (basically how Fountain tests their boats back in their heydays') 7 onboard 3/4 fuel august water 97-98GPS every day any day herrings have to be the short flared hub (for exhaust through prop) not the long straight hub of late design. |
That's in a 388. Nice . Thank you for your info.

my next set of props will be lab maximus 28s
Ive been running the same merc stock 30 4blade b1 for 9 years now, they usually turn 57-5800 in the heat full load 98-101 and 6000 in cool, thimnk prop slip was around 20% also. BMax 1.30 gear Bought a set of Herring 28 5 blades, stock, it would only turn 5500, sent them into b blades cut the diffuser off and loosen up, then wouldn't get on plane ,put diffuser back on and tighten prop back up, still not getting the rpm, gota watch getting on plane will blow out, especially with a load, one blow before the other.but the look cool:rolleyes: Ran it at Tickfaw full fuel, full water,8 people,4 icechest, 5500 was 93, so its way off. The 5 blade seems to setting the boat down above 95, boat dry is 8790. full running is 9540. Herrings 2500-33 3000-46 3500-61.6 4000--68.9 4500-78.1 |

B-MAX 1.30 gear How ya been Its been a while, I don't come on here much these days. I see the slings still working great. I thought maybe you sold it as there was one very similar for sale in Chicago area. Heard Mitch took great care of you, you should see the 377 after he gave it a once over... what an awesome guy. I tried a set of maximus way to much prop (diameter) and it might as well be a #6 cleaver it weighs a ton. Spool up suffered big time. thanks for the insight on the B-max drives they have been flawless since Ron Bender fixed all of Dean's BS With the B-max drives its slow now stock 30' B1 5200RPM 92-93gps (4) onboard with coolers & lite fuel I'm fine with that, turn the key and drive. Take care SK PS if you want to sell those herrings let me know I'm looking for exactly that pitch and style they were the best Wheel I ever had but with the 1:30 B-max I couldn't spin them. |
double post for some reason?
delete please. |

Found a set of B blades labed 26 5 blade Maximus But I think they may be a little to low of a pitch for stk 500 efis and 1 in imco,s A stk 30 4 blade is not enough and a merc raceing labed 31 s hit the rev limiter . I think I'll need a labed 28 5 blade.

I've looked at several dyno sheets from other members who built stroker motors out of the 500efi and shared the info. The manifolds don't contribute to HP after 5300 or so. I just went through the fuel system and had the injectors cleaned. In 90 degree heat, mine seems to be running strong up to 5200 and then seems to hit a peak. I'm thinking of trying a set of 32 Herrings on mine.

32 5 blade hearing, on stk 500 efi? I have a set of 29 hydro 5 blades that are labed . Couldn't turn them but 5000 at 80. But who knows if they are loosend up or tight labed. The came off a cat .

I add 2 deg of timeing it seems to help in the heat. But who knows. I doesn't soot up the transome as bad.

I just ran a bone stk set of c27 hydros 5 blades. With no defuser. Full of fuel and gear 3 people 80 mph killing the rev lim tucked in at neg 1 .

the hydro p5 x round ear seem to work the best over p5 s. Cleaver style
|
Talked to buddy of mine with an 02 388. He went from bravo to p5x and said the boat liked it a lot. Much better high speed handling. Almost zero planning blowout. Much more cruise speed. He has no boxes and standard length lowers. What I find odd, I thought these 388's need a bunch of bow lift? If that was the case the bravo's should work better... but defintely not according to him. Maybe it's the bow lift that is making them loose??

I tried a set of 28 Maximus s and lost 6 mph . I slung a blade on my p5xs after I got them labed just right. I have a set of p 5 s I'm going to try.soon

On the Maximus that is normal. Were they stock? If so that's a whole lot of blade/diffuser. |
I had 32 Maximus cut down to 15.25 and diffuser trimmed. **** ton of money spent on them. Still not near as fast as th stock p5x were
