I'm 6' and I climbed into a Cheetah in Miami last year and I was suprised at how small the cabin, head room , and space were. The Sonic has more but they are all small. In comparison, and not intended to be biased, the PQ has 5'5" headroom and a lot of space to move around. The entry to the cabin is full stand up so you don't have to hunch down or walk in backwards! There simply aren't too many boats of the 34 size that have that much space.
Take a look: |
exact numbers are:
freeboard: 42" Cabin Height: 4'9" Heiko |
6" makes a big difference for headroom but also consider the access and the width of the aisle to the v-birth.
Which one is 4'9"? |
Do you guys know the approximate numbers for freeboard and cabin height for the 388 Slingshot?
|
the exact numbers for 388 Slingshot are:
Freeboard: 45" Beam: 8'6" Cabin Height: 5'1" Weight: 8500lbs I have one. It's a great boat. |
frogger, thanks for the information. Can you tell me a little more about your boat? Is the 5'1" headroom at the entrance to the cabin, or is that more or less throughout the cabin up to the vberth? Also, what sort of motors, drives, and speeds are you seeing? I see some guys that are posting speeds of close to 90 mph with 500's....can this be right? Thanks for the response.
|
the height remains almost the same up to the vberth.
Here you can see a pic of 388's cabin: http://www.funboats.de/galeria_388/S...8CE003_jpg.htm With twin 500 the 388 runs 85-87 (depend on the sweet water or not) The 344 runs 90+ with twin 500. For the 344 i recommend twin 500, Bravo XR. Runs great and nothing breaks. For the 388 take the 500s or the 575SCi, if want to go over 600HP do not take Bravos but surface drives. I have two Volvo 600 in my 388. Engines are great, drives are f.... Heiko PS: If cabinis important to you take the 388. If not the 344. Both run perfectly in rough water. The rougher the water becomes the better these boat handle. Incredibly but true. |
Thanks for the information frogger! The 388 sounds like a fun boat! What sort of speeds are you seeing with 600's?
|
with T600 it reaches about 87mph.
But in my personal opinion it is not important whether it runs one mile less or more. More important are security, rough water handling and the quality of the boat! the 344 and 388 fullfill these wishes in a smart way. Heiko |
PS: with 675 Keith Eickerts and Arneson Surface Drives the 388 tops 110mph.....
|
Thanks again for the information. The 388 would be a great next boat!

I looked at the 344 at the boat show. It was one of my favorite boats there. I didn't care for the seating package in it. The salesman said it would run 106 with 525's and arnesons.

Nice pictures of the show. Interesting with the sit-down Cheetah, and the V-10's in the Slingshot. appears both were set-up with surface drives.
|
Just noticed that the Cheetah has nice HP to go with the surface drives. That boat has to fly. Nice color combination also.
|
If anyone is interested our 2000 Slingshot is up for sale. It's time to move on and do other things. Mrs Cardshark wants me to retire. The boat is loaded and has 500efi's. If anyone is seriously looking for a Slingshot I would be glad to provide pictures and details. We are asking 187,000 for the boat. Cardshark

26-
First, I'm glad to help you with a Hustler. We have 2 344s and 2 388s in production right now. We do not have any used 344/388s at the moment. The Hustler and Sonic are two different boats. The Sonic will give you a larger cabin, however it will weigh more and run considerably slower with the same power. I do have a '97 31 Sonic with a loaded cabin on our list... Please don't hesitate to call if I can help. Tim Gallagher National Marine Sales 954-772-3338 |

Re: 344 cheetah
You guys are talking about the arnesons. I was just wondering what the advantages are of it. granted it wont break as easy as a bravo, but does it use less hp and how do they compare to xrs cost wise. BTW, could someone give me a ballpark price for a 344 w/ hp500s (XRs or Arnesons)?
Thanks very much Tom |
Re: 344 cheetah
The boat is substantially faster with the Arneson's, the speeds jump from 92 to over 103 (525's) just by changing the drives.
I do not know the cost upgrade, you will have to ask the manufacturer what they charge for the package. The point of not breaking the drives brings a different perspective on the boating as one of your major worries is eliminated as you beat the hell out of the boat. |
