Arnesons on 388's

I noticed last year at the Miami show a few Arneson applications. They looked awesome, I like the simplicity and durability of the design, and want to know the characteristics of getting on plane as well as docking. Im looking at another 4300 Nortech or possibly a 42 Outerlimits with a triple application. Thanks Jeff

Jeff I dont think you will like them , ya think your #5 props w/ boxes where bad

When I was at Lake Cumberland looking at 388 Hustler they had one with the arnison and 1000hp merc in it. He was going to replug the transom and put bravos and smaller engines in so it would sale . Randy called it a morphidite

I would not do it.

I have no issue's with the #5's and boxes other than I wish they were 6's. They work great and Im use to the props sticking out past the swim platform now. I just want to go to the next level in power and drives. The reason might call it a morphidite is there obviously isn't to many Arnesons on v-bottom applications, more so on cats. What I am finding out is if the boat was designed with surface drives in mind, 2 speed tranny, then it might be a superior trouble free application. I honestly have a problem with spending 37k for a #6, Im just trying not to go back to black, thinking outside the box. Jeff

The purple and yellow 388 at Miami in 2002 was in my opinion one of the best set up boats around and I heard ran 100+

I recently purchased a 2004 slingshot with cobra 750's and surface drives. I love the set up. It takes a little to plane off but it rides better than the Bravo 1. It is a bullet proof set up.

The boat is a 2004. Modified #6 Arnesons. It is supposed to run 110 mph. I was radared 98 MPH in the Lake Ozark Shootout. I have seen over 100 but not for very long. Still getting used to the way it feels with surface drives at high speeds. The easiest way to see pics is go to www.lakecumberlandmarine.com look at used boats it is the blue and yellow 2004.

Nice ride :D ,

I see Cumberland has redone the site, alot better, I don't like it when they don't put prices in the adds ,. Makes you think the qualify the costumer to see how much to charge for the boat :(

I wonder why the sub speaker grill is off center ? mine is in the center, i know it just a grill cover .Mine came with a kicker sub box ,I replaced it with 2 12's. boomboom :Dported box maybe?

Hey look at this LITTLE trailer

I don't know why it is off center. It is a mounted sub not a kicker box like my old Slingshot. Notice the two rear speakers are mounted high. They sound alot better

Re: Arnesons on 388's

Premiums- Nice boat. Hustler definitely has a lot of experience with surface drives. My Slingshot with #5's has a high 'x' dimension. Hey Rob- is that your gooseneck trailer? Paint scheme on the boat seems different from your boat or is that a shot off Cumberland's web site? My boat doesn't have a rear center speaker. It has the stereo w/6 CD setup. Previous owner had the rear seat replaced with the 3 bolster rear seat with a foot rest that runs across boat. Owner flew in the Hustler technician who mounted the sear and footrest as well as the new rear carpet. Unfortunately, part of the deal was to remove the small water heater tank. Prior owner ran the boat hard and made the changes after he broke 2-3 ribs on a guy at one of the 1000 Islands Poker Runs. Guy got tossed into one of the front bolsters....ouch! Lou

It prob has a center support under there?

I replaced my speakers down there and added 4 up top also .It does make it louder :D . I also added some Babb 10's for mid range and 2 fozgate 12's under the seat.

Lmarth thats a pick from cumberland

Re: Arnesons on 388's

There have been several 388’s with the Arneson Surface Drives and we even did a 344 Cheetah for last years Miami boat show with stock Merc 525’s. There is going to be another 388 at the Miami boat show coming up along with a 50’.

The purple one with yellow flames, they use this one in their adds, has a pair of Eicker 675’s and Rolf @ PROROC has run the boat up to 115 mph.

Matt Shade’s 388 with the Cobra 780’s is one wicked sounding boat. Ask Matt how it docks, I saw him at LOTO maneuver it in the docks between all the boats during the shoot out. He had absolutely no problems.

The 388 that was referred to as a morphodite, was a boat that was a trade in on a new 40’ Skater with Arneson’s. The boat was converted from #5 speedmasters to the Arneson’s and they covered the transom with an aluminum plate rather than re-glass the transom. The boat came out of New Jersey and they had tried to mimic the Black Cloud boat.

Boat was in fact sold to a guy in Corona CA without engines and he runs the boat at Havasu with a pair of engines that he purchased through a Military sale. Engines were built by Innovation for the military and they were naturally aspirated engines with all these cool parts. He added blowers to them and installed them in the boat. I think they dyno’d a bit over 1,000 hp. Boat has run in the low 130’s at Havasu.

Nope :D

But he is doing a turbo motor . I cant see how it would work in a boat. I bet he gives up on it.

Rik 12-07-2004 10:57 PM

Re: Arnesons on 388's

I don't know much about what they are doing for motors since I don't ask.

That being said, Turbo's are not rare in boats. Gentry ran them for years as well as a lot of the SOCAL guys.

In reality, Turbos are the future as they come with their own built in muffler, the turbo itself.

This is a very important thing for most boating applications. Turbos also offer a great deal of torque.

Tyson, "Big Yellow Cat" runs twin turbos on a 598? and he has made some really large hp numbers.

The guy is out of Beamont, CA he is a contractor of some sort. I know he spends most of his time out of state on military battle field jobs so he is a hit/miss for boating. His name is Pat Baldi

What speeds did your friends boat reach with 875's and Imco 4 X 4's

Re: Arnesons on 388's

I rode in the Black Cloud 388 about 5 years ago during the 1000 islands poker run . That was one hell of a ride with those arnesons and twin 1000hp motors. The only complaint I heard about it was that because the best set up for the boat was to run the drives and props rotating inward that it at times was a handful to drive and had even hooked at high speed a few times. There a few times when I was in it where it felt a little squirley but it was an awsome boat! I have seen a new 344 Cheatah with arnesons for sale and it is the new sit down set up that thing looks like it should fly even with 525's.

Rik which set up is this.

Rik On the Bravo conversion do you have to re glass the transom???

There looks like a lot of Hustlers are going to the Arnesons.

Re: Arnesons on 388's

Those are ASD8-10" drop box drive units mounted on a 31 degree angle.

The boat has a set of Yanmar 440's in it and I think it runs 85-86.

Bravo conversion does not require you re-glass the transom as the standoff box covers the Bravo cutout. You have to open the transom up a bit for the transmission to fit through. Other than that, nothing special has to be done to the boat for a standard side by side application.

They work really well on the Hustlers, but the same can be said for all the applications so far.

Re: Arnesons on 388's

Rik I noticed on the site it was a avarage of about 5 MPH increase.

I guess they take a speed master spline prop?

Rob

Rik 12-27-2004 10:20 PM

Re: Arnesons on 388's

They use the SSM#6 propellers.

Typically, they use a 5 blade 16.5 diameter by what ever pitch is needed to run the speeds.

Midrange they pick up over 10 and top end 5 or more.

i saw eickerts new turbo motors in miami. the lay out of the engine was not very impressive, keith usually does a great job of dressing an engine & making it look cool. didn't have his usual wow factor.
