Fourth Ilmor-powered Formula 382 is in the works
After a buyer appeared for the factory's 2013 382 brochure and PR boat, Formula is starting work on another 725/Indy-powered boat for their own use. Formula has not built a Mercury-powered 382 in over a year now. Go Ilmor!

Looks like the boat is on display in Key West...

The Formula 382 is a slug. Notice no one ever brags about how fast it went. What a waste of a great set of engines. To go 94 mph in a 38-foot stepped bottom boat with 1,450 horsepower is a joke. You can put 4,000 horsepower in it and it'll do maybe 110.

I like mine!

Just as a Donzi ZR Comp is a stripped-down speedster good only for day runs, 382's were NEVER designed strictly for top speed, but are intended to provide more amenities in exchange for less speed. The ILMOR boats have provided a great alternative to Mercury power, running as fast or faster than 700/NXT boats while using far less fuel. There is an Arneson-equipped 382 on the west coast running 114+ mph with far, far less than 4,000 hp. |
Was able to see the boat they had in Key West, nice looking set up, they were going to have one here for Boyne Thunder. They were unable to bring it due to a photo shot change. Maybe this year the Factory can bring one up to show us whet it does.
