Call Jonn Cambell At Alliance Marine. He Can Get You A Policy With Lloyd's Of London. It Won't Be Cheap But If A Storm Comes It Will Sound Like A Great Deal !

Or try getting your boat out of the storm next time :D

Re: Insurance for FL w/ hurricane Coverage?????

I live off Tampa Bay and keep my boat on a list at my house. I have an agreed policy with N.B.O.A. in Sarasota with a Wind Storm Damage policy that will cover my boat in a Tropical Depression, Tornado or Hurricane. The Wind Storm Policy is a 10% deuctible and so far N.B.O.A. is the only place I have found to be able to do this for me.
My policy just came up for remewal and they will renew for me. I will be shopping insurance in the next 2 weeks just to be sure I am still getting the best deal possible.

Good Luck because boat insurance in Florida is hard to come by especially for performance boats and performance fishing boats and a wind storm policy is about impossible lately in Florida. N.B.O.A. said that the underwritter I has last year would not insure my boat (38TE Fountain with trip 275 Verado's) and they found only 1 company that would still insure for Florida. I do not know what I will do if these people drop out of Florida...sell the boat I guess? :(

If you can't get huricane coverage of some kind, you can't get financing.

I just spoke with an agent that used to insure performance boats, and doesn't any more beacause of a claim a few weeks ago.

He blamed it onthe internet and magazines publishing all these record top speeds for all the boats. He said if the boat went less than 80 mph it would be easier.

Alliance gave me a quote, but with a 10% named storm deductible.

Re: Insurance for FL w/ hurricane Coverage?????

ASG, it seems like the best I can find too on Wind Storm Deduct's is now 10%.
I was wanting to possibly sell or trade in my 38TE Fountain (top speed is 70ish) for a 42 EX or lighting with 525's. NOBODY would touch this boat in Florida! Either they stopped writting for Florida, or the boat goes to fast or the few I could find that would do agreed value policies want around $7-8,000 on a $250,000 boat with NO windstorm policy.

Seriously, between the insurnace crap and gas prices I am about ready to give up boating and sell my Fountain. Buy a Ferrari and join the local Ferrari club, do track days and poker runs with them. It would actually be cheaper than boating and much less hassel. I am losing the boating bug very quickly this year.

Markel will write policies in FL for performance boats with windstorm coverage, although it has gone up from last year by about 40%.

I have a Markel policy on my current boat and called them an was told they are not writing policies in FL anymore.

i am insured with Bob Luellen of World wide, 1-800-339-1235, and we just added our NEW SEADOO jet boat with them. And we are insured thru Progressive, on both, with full windstorm damage, BUT I think Progressive might not be writing new policies in FL.! :( You might want to give Bob or John a call @ Worldwide.
hope this helps.

Here is the Scoop. If you have it insured in FL now with windstorm coverage, leave it their. Markel is writing in FL but all zones are closed (for wind coverage) except the Cape Canaveral north and inland zones. The Lloyds coverage is only avaliable through one guy and he is listed. If your boat is less than 30ft and less than $100K and doesn't run greater than 75 mph then Progressive is the call. Most good HP agents have Progressive so call them 1st as you save no money by going direct and the people on the other end don't now a Fountain from a Sea Ray. Another London sydicate has some coverage but only for specific makes (fountain, donzi, etc) up to 85 mph. Ski safe has some coverage in FL but the windstorm deductible is 25% (rumor).

Hope this helps,

This another reason we are REALLY going to try to pay off our Nordic this year, (If we don't sell it! :( ) and just go with our liability umbrella policy! I'm so sick of the insurance BS is Florida, it's ridiculous!

Call a girl named Niala Narace @ Atlass Insurance in Ft. Lauderdale. (954)525-0585 all she does is marine insurance and has a company out of UK that is writing. I just had her insure my 35 fountain, full coverage including wind, 1 million liability, and an agreed value. for just under $4,000 a year. Not exactly cheap, but Markell was $3,300 with no wind and only 300,000 liability. (and quite frankly Markell sucks when paying claims) Give her a try.

Mike,

They never made a 12 whaler. You can get a 9,11 or 13 but no 12. Check www.whalercentral.com or www.continuouswave.com

I just bought a 15: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ayphotohosting

Paid 10K with $8600 in receipts for new 4 stroke 60 Yamaha (warranty til 2012), 06 trailer and Mills bimini top. Seller was a perfectionist to say the least.

Forgot to mention: Insurance is $237 per year and fuel is about $3 per hour.

FeverMike 09-01-2006 09:15 AM

Re: Insurance for FL w/ hurricane Coverage?????

Jupiter yes the 13' is what I meant! :drink: My neighbor has a 10' RIB with a small Yamaha on it. He has a blast on that thing cruising the canals and the mangrove creeks around the bay. Plus docking at the neighborhood waterside resturant is a breeze. When I ordered my 2006 38TE Fountain fuel was hovering right over $2 a gal. When I picked up the boat fuel had doubled and now it down .50 cents a gallon.
My wife and I use to go out every weeked and at least 1 day during the week. We have not had the boat out in a month! The Poker Run will be the 1st time since mid July.

Talked to John and he said there is no one right now that will insure my boat in Florida because it's too long and too fast.

Yep everyone it is a 38TE Fountain with triple 275's top speed of 70. No one will touch it or any other boat like it. Yes this is a FISHING BOAT! GEESH!

That sucks Alex, I knew the people bragging about being "killers" would eventually sneak in at some point and haunt us all. Does Melanie have a writer that they deal with. I know they cant recommend one person, but she may have a couple for you to check out...Rob

I have the 35 lightening with twin 502 engines. (top speed 75) Niala Narace @ Atlass insurance in Ft lauderdale can write anything under 75 - 80 MPH through Great Lakes. They are the biggest underwriter for the company and have done pretty well with alot of sport boats. Her Number is (954) 525-0585.
Give her a try.

FeverMike 09-24-2006 11:19 PM

Re: Insurance for FL w/ hurricane Coverage?????

I called Niala and she could insure my Fountain fish boat for $9,000 a year and 5% windstorm deduc for a agreed value of $230k  I stuck with NBOA with a 10" wind storm and $2300 a year. :D

asg, yep the insurance in Florida is all screwed up and a real scam. pstorti posted above and does not believe all this to be correct though. All I know is that from what my neighbors are going through with there performance boats and the many phone calls I made for insurance renewal for my 38te Fountain center console fish boat. I was lucky to get NBOA to renew my policy and only have it go up $300, however they increased my widstorm from 2% to 10% . I have perfect credit, driving record in my auto and boat with no claims and still many companies advertising here and in magazines will not insure in Florida or I did find one lady that wanted $9,000 to insure my boat.

For Florida marine insurance there's always the other option of calling me here in Ft Lauderdale. Buzz at Total Dollar Florida, formerly PMA Marine Insurance Services. 18 years of writing marine insurance and counting. Gave up on my own office and joined the big guys in NY City! While the insurance market choices here in sunny Florida are slim to poor I do have a London company with wind coverage (double the base deductible) for boats under 90 MPH and I have Progressive for boats under 30' and under $100k. Give me a call..................
