I would guess if boat was in your garage, that would be covered under homeowner.

Yeah, call your agent, pull your policy and see what your limits are.

I just talked to my insurance co about this situation (my boat is in a "cover-it" too). They said items in storage buildings are covered up to $1,000. and that "boat parts" (I told them I have a spare engine out there) would not be considered for coverage. I have a call into their claims adjuster trying to verify what the office staff have told me. I need to call my boat ins co and see what they would cover too apparently.

I'm contacting both.....just wanna make sure somebody would cover it, even if I have to "buy" the additional coverage. I don't want to end up with the same misfortune that Air Time has had with his boat.

I asked my insurance agent about this also. Have two boats and a jetski, didn't went to insure all them if they were covered under my home owners for theft and acts of nature.

Told me if somthing can be insured with a separate policy, like a car/boat, homeowners policy will not cover it. I really worry about theft and the weather damaging them more than a collision with an object or other vessel. But thats why insurance sucks:drink:

AIR TIME 03-08-2007 08:10 AM

nope they will cover a 1000 thats it and because I ONLY USED THE BOAT FOR A COUPLE OF TEST RUNS THIS FALL WITH THE NEW STUFF I HAS NO INSURANCE. it needs to be surveyed 1st it a 88:( :( and this spring jon was going to help me do some glass work so it would pass. and get insurance.

Sucks....i would never expect insurance to cover stuff like this unless they know about. Anything you want covered should be asked of them. Finding the SOB who stold the stuff is the best bet.

i THINK ITS THE GUY BEHIND ME. I talked to the detective to day there coming tomorrow to look for prints.

t500hps 03-08-2007 07:53 PM

Good Luck with the detectives Air Time.......

For everyone else. I've talked to my boat and home-owners Ins companies. Boat policy covers items bolted to the boat and pre-determined amount of gear based on what amount you choose. (most are about $1,000 and are for items ON the boat like fishing gear)
Extra items not in/on the boat would be your "personal property" and covered under your home-owners policy right.....WRONG! Mine has a $1,500 limit on boat or boat related items. Air Time's apparently is $1,000.

I have extra drives, props, pumps, etc in my garage and neither co covers these items over the $1,500 max my home-owners will cover. Home-owners Ins co has no provisions to even buy the addl coverage and am waiting on the boat ins co to see if they will write something to cover this type of loss. :(
