That means they don't let the shop bend them over. Our Insurance rates are high on cars and boats due to alot (not all) of shops taking advantage of the Ins. companies.

I don't get the GEICO thing....

They've done a great job of marketing to say the least. They've got the consumer thinking their rates are the lowest (they're not), their claim service is great (ask any body shop or glazier about that) and they brag about 24/7 customer service. I ask you...do you want to deal with a "call center"?
Only recently do I see State Farm and Liberty Mutual commercials going after them. The insurance industry has really left the door open to GEICO and continues to do so by not educating the consumer about true quality insurance at a low cost. By the way, they don't insure boats. GEICO owns an insurance agency called "Insurance Councelors" that writes the boat insurance with other carriers.
Buy your boat insurance from an insurance agent that specializes in it and you won't get hurt.

not the case...the biggest issue is when your fender or bumper on your Mercedes needs to be replaced the start looking for used parts at salvage yards, then they go to aftermarket parts houses (usually parts made in Korea) then if that doesnt work they will contact the body shop and see if in fact the part cant be repaired. OEM parts and the absolute last choice. AND THIS IS NOT HEAR SAY THIS IS FACT...I WENT THROUGHT IT !! If i were driving a 6,8,10 year old 100k mile car i wouldnt care. BUT NOT ON A 3 YEAR OLD BENZ !!

I got screwed by Geico as well. Switched to Allstate. Havent had an issue yet, and Allstate's rates were almost 600 bucks cheaper. Couldnt believe it. I wont get into the whole bodyshop thing.... but I will agree with berns29. He hit it perfectly.

Biggus 04-04-2008 07:50 PM

I called them this afternoon. They only insure boats that are not older than 7 years.

You are right. Its all in the policy. The facts you just stated is the policy for farmers, progressive, allstate, geico, and america first. People need to read the policy (contract) before chosing your insurance. Insurance is a for profit company and they have a policy for everyone. Most of the time it is just like the saying.......you get what you pay for.

Farmers has always done right by me. I've had a truck claim and a boat claim and was treated fairly with no hassles from them.
