marinas are they responsable????

Here it goes looking for info, boat is docked at my marina, someone taps it and damages the paint, have a witness who will back this up,guy says he never hit me,his first boat and has no idea how to dock it won't give me his info,is the marina at all responsable for this or negligent in any way???

I am going to venture a guess and say that the marina is not responsible at all and that the guy who tapped you is totally responsible.

Get his registration numbers and call the local water cops.

I doubt you have anything with the marina. Small claims is your next stop, along with a police report in your favor with witness.

The guys going to be a problem.....turn it over to the police, then call your own insurance co. (then they can work it out)

If I owned a Marina the small print would limit my exposure to ZERO for anything like this - my guess is that somewhere you signed something when you paid to dock there that says the Marina isn't responsible.

I must be missing something. Why would the marina be responsible?

Don't marinas require that you have insurance before they lease you a slip? Cops are gonna have to get involved with this one. Contact your insurance info if the damage is worth turnig it in and give them his info let them track down who his insurer is.

have had slips at a few marinas and have seen a tree fall on a boat,an axle ripped off a trailer after being backed off the launch, and a boat damaged by a floating log in the Marina and neither would take any responsability...

Yep, police report and call ur own insurance company. Not worth the fight. Let the people u pay to fight, fight it out.

Pretty sure I always had to sign a release at the marinas I kept my cruisers at. Seen a bunch of docking damage and always went to the operator/insurance.
Would think most policies would cover your own boat in that case as well.
