need insurance
Just got off the phone with Elton Porter insurance. They informed me that they no longer do business with Markel american and that my insurance would expire on the 12th of Aug 2011. They are trying to find a new company but I think they should have done this before they decided to drop Markel or Markel them? Anyway im in the market for insurance for a 1993 top gun with twin 575 H.P. motors. The boat is located in Seabrook Tx and is moored behind my house in a slip. There no loan on the boat or trailer. I have an excellent driving record no tickets or DWI. Any takers or advice

We have a lot of guys in the Clear Lake area insured (many who keep their boats at Clear Lake Marina.) Anyways, we've gotten them all insured and a lot of them were with Markel prior to us moving them to other carriers. There are currently the following carriers that would potentially consider the boat: American Modern Markel The boat exceeds the age limit on some of the others. I can get you rates from American Modern but to bind, they will require a marine survey less than 1 year old. If you call me or email me, I can get you a solid rate from AMIG. My email is: [email protected] Thanks! |
I insure my '98 38' Scarab (575sci x 2) with an insurance broker in my business network group. The name is Henderson insurance (George Henderson) and the company is Foremost. $1200 a year and coverage is $300,000 Liability, $80k replacement and $10k for trailer. Great people and very helpful. They insure my business too.

http://www.brokerswhocare.com/ Foremost can be great if your boat fits their mid performance guidelines. Many of us brokers on here that are marine agents can write Foremost. If a boat is under 75mph (top capable speed), then we will provide a quote from Foremost. However, if the boat exceeds that top speed, then it is not a boat for Foremost (per their written underwriting guidelines). This guy has Twin 500's and reports 80 mph as his top speed. I would make sure that the application you signed reflects the legitimate top speed of your boat, that way you're covering all of your bases. Just trying to look out because your boat honestly "rides the line" of eligibility with them from what I see, but that is just my opinion. http://www.powerboatlistings.com/view/9841 |

Don't think your boat will fit with Foremost but it will fit with AMIG. We can try to submit to underwriting for special approval with Foremost and see if they take it but they will likely find a listing similar to this and figure your boat runs above 75mph top capable speed... http://www.powerboatlistings.com/view/1777 (this is just reference, I know it isn't your boat exactly but this is what underwriting uses to gauge speed thresholds). |
That boat is a twin step for one thing (mine is not 98/99 was the chNge over) but 80 is a bit optimistic for that power setup. Mine with 650hpx2 will easily hit 72. Was hoping for 80-82 but have never seen over 76-77. Run it wot maybe 5 min every weekend (mostly 3200-3400 rpm -50ish). But thanks for the info

If you are confident in your policy and your agent, that is awesome and the way it should be. :) |
