Fuel/Oil Spill Coverage
So I just noticed on my PLUP that there is a new exclusion that does not cover fuel/oil.
I asked a few questions of my insurance provider; looking to find out exactly what this means. I was hoping it that it only meant they would not replace lost fuel/oil if I have some type of loss claim. I wasn't so lucky. Per underwriting, it does not cover fuel/oil leak cleanup or other losses, which is what I was expecting my PLUP to cover. I have my insurance provider looking into exactly what coverage comes on my boat policies, but I was VERY surprised to find this out on my PLUP. Any insight from our Insurance Experts? What happens if your boat goes down, or you create a large "slick" from gasoline/fuel/diesel/oil spill in the water? Is there ANY coverage for this? |
WTF is a PLUP??

You need to look on your watercraft declarations page and see. Some carriers have a separate "pollution liability" line item, others include it with the same limits as your personal liability limits. Best scenario is to have two line items on your declarations page: one for personal liability and the other for pollution liability. |
Your regular boat insurance policy should have enough coverage for the oil/fuel spill cleanup.
