Fuel/Oil Spill Coverage

So I just noticed on my PLUP that there is a new exclusion that does not cover fuel/oil.

I asked a few questions of my insurance provider; looking to find out exactly what this means. I was hoping it that it only meant they would not replace lost fuel/oil if I have some type of loss claim.

I wasn't so lucky.

Per underwriting, it does not cover fuel/oil leak cleanup or other losses, which is what I was expecting my PLUP to cover.

I have my insurance provider looking into exactly what coverage comes on my boat policies, but I was VERY surprised to find this out on my PLUP.

Any insight from our Insurance Experts?

What happens if your boat goes down, or you create a large "slick" from gasoline/fuel/diesel/oil spill in the water? Is there ANY coverage for this?

Wake Zone offers coverage for marine insurance through 10 (currently) different carriers. Depending upon WHO your primary watercraft coverage it with, fuel spill coverage (aka pollution liability) can be anywhere from $300,000 - $1,000,000.

You need to look on your watercraft declarations page and see. Some carriers have a separate "pollution liability" line item, others include it with the same limits as your personal liability limits.

Best scenario is to have two line items on your declarations page: one for personal liability and the other for pollution liability.

Your regular boat insurance policy should have enough coverage for the oil/fuel spill cleanup.
