$2000/year for a 10 year old 65mph 30ft???

I've been looking at insurance for a used boat I intend to buy. The boat is a v-hull, about 10 years old, 30ft, top speed ~65MPH, valued around $35K.

I'm in my late 20s, no major car accidents or moving violations, first time boat owner, but been boating my whole life.

My main insurance company, USAA, doesn't offer boat insurance, but they partner with Progressive, so I got a quote from them, which was about $2000/year ($300K combined single limit, $500 deductible)

I got a quote from Geico, which I think had comparable coverage, for about $400/year.

I believe part of the problem is my umbrella policy. They say unless I use one their partners for my boat policy there's a chance they won't renew my umbrella policy.

So $2000/year seems high to me for this type of boat. The huge difference between that and the Geico quote is puzzling. Are they trying to take advantage of me, or is this a reasonable quote?

Thanks!

The Progressive quote seems way high.

I had a policy with them for awhile, $15K agreed value and I think it was only like $160 a year.

I cant believe that the green lizard even quoted you. I asked for a quote last yearcon my 28zx and they indicated that they dont insure these typescof boats??? I already had a motorcycle policy with them.

I also was with porgressive on a previous boat and purchased a bigger boat. There price quote was rediculous. I contact devin with Wozencraft insurance and could not beleive the rate he gave me for a bigger boat and better coverage for only about $80 more than I was paying on my 22 donzi. call them up great guy to deal with.

That's a heck of a quote! Maybe I need to get a new quote for myself.
