Tunnel hull insurance
Any suggestions on carriers for a smaller tunnel hull with high hp? Recently purchased and am in the process of rigging a 00' mirage ski racer with a 260 merc. figured just in case I should be properly covered on the bad boy since it shoul be over 100mph. Thanks in advance.

I hate to be the bearer of horrible news but if it's under 26' and capable of over 100mph then you don't really have any options. You have one option, and minimum premiums start at $3500 per year.

It's 20ft, would that one option be liability only or with comp and collision.

For real?? What gives, How can that be justified?? Really? Can't be! must be a typo error!
It's not a typo. This carrier basically says that if you want a policy with them then the minimum premium they are willing to charge to write a policy is $3,500. The $3500 is full coverage. So, if you have a lower valued boat and the per $100 rate only get's you to a rate of $1,500 a year, you're automatically subject to the minimum premium for policy issuance and charged $3,500. I don't make the rules...the carriers do. :( |
not blaming you Stacy!!!! I know you don't set the rates. I 'm just making a statement, I know for a fact that they (the Underwriting Companys) are just hedging there "bet" and can insure cats for much less $$$ I think it is moraly WRONG, and GREETY, (on their part NOT YOU) and it will continue as long as we as boaters put up with it!!!!! but they have to live with it not me!
Stacy I know that you work hard to give people the best possible value for insurance, and do a great job for our members, so thanks for that!!!!! keep up the good work. |
You should try and insure a cat/tunnel hull in FLORIDA! :( It's crazy! Once again, it's the carriers that set the rates.....
