Stated/Agreed Value Policy and Adjusters

The insurance companies that are recommended or on this site, do they offer stated or agreed value policies? If you have a claim, whose adjusters do they use. Are the their own or independent? Being in the insurance industry, it's about fast, fair claim service. God forbid you have a claim, they can make a bad situation worse.

I had one with Progressive. NADA value of he boat was only listed at like 12k, but it had over 40k in powertrain alone. They wrote the policy as I requested, then sent me a cancel letter couple weeks later. After a phone discussion they requested pictures and serial numbers off drive an engine. Reinstated the policy as written, end of story. I kept it with them for 4 years without a claim. But have heard some stories about their adjusters being dicks if you do have a claim.

All of our carriers offer agreed value as well and as a boater I always recommend agreed value. Boats can be tricky to get the right value coverage. Having the right agent that knows the boats and knows the market can work to the advantage of both the carrier and the client. Your agent should work with the underwriter to get your boat PROPERLY insured. I always explain the difference to my clients in the event they are not clear on the two different types of policies. Agreed value takes all of the wondering out in the event of a total loss.
