Cat vs Mono insurance pricing??
Been shopping around lately for another boat. Been eyeing the Nor Tech 3600's. Was talking with a gentleman today who said I better check rates before I look to hard. Was wanting to get some feedback from cat owners with mild power. 700s or 900s and what kinda yearly rates they're paying. Compared to say a 38 to 42 Lightning or Cigarette with equal power?

If bet once it settles out the cat is 3+ times more expensive, and by settle it I mean you prove your competency and have the Tres class. |

No tres class and no prior cat experience I was quoted 6-9k a year for a 30’ cat that could do 110mph. This was from some of the “performance boat specialist” agencies. |

I don’t think it helps that I’m 29, But it was really because it was a cat. They were able to give me reasonable rates for vee hull. from what I could tell, unless you’ve taken the Tres class, or have already owned/insured a cat before there really is no “proving “ Your experience. I’ve got an extensive list of motor sports and racing history, I have several marine certifications, no prior incidents and it really didn’t make a difference . Hopefully something changes because I will own a cat, I think I’d like to pay something a little more reasonable |
A cat is a little different than a helicopter or bike. There are a lot of incidents even with experienced owners.

Similar in Canada 36 Nor Tech 3600 Cat with 700's valued at $200,000 US is about $7,300 US per year with a 130 MPH limit

If you have never owned a cat-hull it will be more difficult to obtain preferred pricing. Once you have 1-2 years ownership under your belt it will be much easier. Taking the Tres Martin course for instance can help in certain circumstances to obtaining cat insurance with less experience, but ones resume, age, driving record, loss history, as well as other factors will need to be solid. The course can also offer a discount on your premium each year thereafter.
