Impossible to get insurance in Miami FL

Hey guys have you heard any news on new companies jumping into insuring "high performance" boats? I tried to get insurance on a 30 spectre with 300s and I couldn't find anyone. I spoke to wozencraft and a few others recommended by OSO. I was told the high performance boating insurance is getting smaller and smaller, and on top of that having the boat in Miami Florida makes the market for insurances shrink even more. I got one insurance to quote me $12k a year for a boat that had a value of under $80k... crazy, out of control.. I can understand that price being the insurance of a boat worth $700k... but a boat not even worth $80 is nuts to me..

That sucks but when talking rates consider that most of the country has a 4-6 month layup. So when somebody up north says they only pay 5K for insurance keep in mind the insurer knows that boat is tucked away in a barn for 6 months of the year. S Florida boating is year round.

Is this your first cat, if so that can be another reason for the upcharge.

That's a good way of thinking. But i think it has more to do with the amount of boats that get stolen here and the amount of storms/hurricanes we get as well. A boat is way more likely to get stolen in Miami then lets say a small town in Kentucky.

$150K boat here in Kansas is about $1000 per year. Location, location, location...they make you pay for paradise.
