Awesome looking cat! I sure hope they find a way to keep going.

Is the issue the speed or the cat design that makes the insurance so expensive?

They base it on experience, previous cat ownership, and speed bracket. If you have a cat that is documented to run over 120, it is expensive and there are very few underwriters. Ex: 36 Wright Performance with 400s I was quoted under 2K--36 Wright Performance with 450s I am paying 7,800 (kinda salty for me but nothing to others that pay over 25K a year).

I had a great talk yesterday with Scott from Wozencraft about insuring my Skater 28 - I need a survey first, but so far so good.

What is the typical cost of insuring a 28 Skater in the US?

I'm sorry, but that kind of costs for insurance is just not right. If you have 3 BUI's, 2 DWI's a couple felony arrests, I can see it. But that would basically kill the sport for me. I don't really care how much is in my bank account, but that would take all the fun out of it. Of course, I am talking about 25K or whatever. 2K for a 100MPH new cat seems reasonable.

Its not the boat or the speed its the claims...............if a cat blows over, it gets expensive for them. If you charge 2K a year how many boats do you have to insure to cover ONE total loss? Or you can charge 2K a year for a different style of boat with a less risky claim history.

I have been insured by Allstate in the past on a 27MTR, Talon 25 Carrier and a Hustler Talon 25 but it looks like those days are over. I don't think they even have an option anymore.
