Cleat Placement

From launching the boat in to taking it out, I probably have to dock abut 3 time (not including launching in and taking it out). I have to say, the cleat placement and over functionality of the cleat is horrible. In order to get a bumper and a line on i have to put the loop end of the rope through the cleat, than put the line through the hole of the line to wrap around the cleat AND THAN tie a bumper onto the knot holding the rope on the cleat. Yes, its really complicated and I usually have to get them pretty exact because the dock at the boating ramp, family friends house, and my house are all at different levels so I can never just pre-set the bumper up that easy. Any suggestions? I've looked into quick cleats, but it'd be over $300 + install:eek:......

Quick cleats are the way to go. Expensive but well worth it....http://www.eddiemarine.com/store/car...uct_list&c=222

Whatever you do, seal up the balsa very very well. Went through hell on the Challenger dealing with wet core in the deck

I think the deck is foam cored....I'm not 100% on that though. Let us know when you start drilling :lolhit:

Has anyone tried these? They look pretty interesting. I know it would look fugly, but it would be nice to have 5 feet of my boat covered in bumpers for $40!

I use the Taylor Big B's in 10" I think (the largest that fit under the seat). I have them set up with rope threw the center and braided. All I do it drop them over the piling and Im done, they dont flop out of the way that way. When I moor I run two together thread the rope thru the holes and hook the rope on the back and mid cleat, again the rope is allready set up I just flop them over and hook them up to the cleats (rope pre braided on both ends just hook to cleat)
