hey there

Hey there i have a 2003 21xci with the open bow and the 496 mag in it. Pics will follow soon but i think i picked it up for a good price i got it for 21k with 300 hours and all the service record to go with it. I own a stereo shop in Norco, ca so i am in the middle of putting in 4 tens and 2 15's 12 sets of speakers and 5 amps pics will follow shortly of the build. But i am wondering what kinda of performance products are out there for this motor i have the 375hp 496 any help and advice appreciated.

Centsless 08-05-2011 10:39 PM

raylar is one of the few that does anything worthy of mention with the 496 but its not cheap.......
the other option is to bump it up to HO ..425 hp and call it a day
with proper headers you will net about 450 hp
good luck

i would agree with your mechanic...... thats about all you want for power in a 21 ft boat
read through some of the past treads in the lavey forum here
i had the same query you did for my 26' nuera......
i was warned off

lavey jr 08-07-2011 08:11 PM

The 21 can handle more power than a 496.
We've built some with a Merc 500 and Merc 525... There's one out there that was even built with a Merc 600sci that has seen 100mph...

chewyjr18 08-07-2011 09:14 PM

i would love to put a 525 in it, maybe in a few years for now what are some good bolt-ons for some added power? EMI exhaust? what else feedback appreciated.

You don't need a junker to up it to a 496HO. It's only a cam change and an ecu. Instead of the ecu, you could go with a whipple stage II. Then you can just use your old ecu. The CMI headers are a hell of alot of money for a minimal gain. Better spent on prop and dialing in. Maybe a shorty or extention box. If you want to change exhaust, the Eddie marine or Dana manifolds would be the way to go. Lavey jr. any experience with boxes and shorties on the 21???

bblades is very good for prop mods.
Depending your location, there is also Cutting Edge. They have very good customer service with great turn around.

We have never put a box on the 21 so I'm not sure how it would work... We've also never ran a shortie but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Also, A.O. I see you're looking for a 38-42' boat... The Lavey 39 EVO is still up for sale for a great deal :drink:

I also heard good things about DAH http://www.dahpropellers.com

When adding a box to the 21, a 7" would maybe work better than a 12"? What does the 21 run with 425 or so hp?

I've been thinking about that one for awhile now. I have a few questions for you, so will pm you a little later this weekend or monday.
