Engine bay storage
Hey Guys,
Seen several pic.s of what look to be fiberglass storage boxes (Schweeng's 29 included) in the engine bay and had a few questions: Are these custom built at Lavey? Assuming they are fiberglass? Are they all the same or different depending on models 2750 vs 29? Does anyone have them installed with quick attach hardware? Approximate cost? I'm thinking the extra storage would be nice for some of the essentials like fenders, anchor etc. Any info would be greatly appreciated! -Paul |
I believe Lavey builds them, they are fiberglass...not sure if the size changes between the 27 and 29 (the two boats share the same width..
I took one out last week when I "tried" to change the impeller - took 2 minutes -3 bolts and 2 screws. They work excellent for bumpers/lines on one side and anchor, anchor line, tools, cleaners, etc. hahah - you won't find a used pair on ebay that's for sure. Chris |

Chris Yeah, I'm sure they are hard to come by. I'll see if I can't get some more info from the guys at the factory. Your boat is beautiful and the pic.s of it in the water are killing me! Supposed to be 20 degrees tomorrow! -Paul |

Don't know about other sizes. Never looked at the hardware close- I will. These are invaluable and well worth paying a few bones for- Don't recall as a line item - but the total bill was scintillating. Bumpers, anchor, , ropes, folding chairs, uninflected tubes, battery chargers, coolers, life jacket I even carried 20- G of fuel on a long trip. 4-5G jugs. Carrying 5G jugs is a big deal when lake camping. Uncle Dave http://i.imgur.com/lqM2h0q.jpg http://i.imgur.com/6xJAVvs.jpg http://i.imgur.com/N8ic7xu.jpg |

Uncle Dave http://i.imgur.com/lqM2h0q.jpg http://i.imgur.com/6xJAVvs.jpg I see them in the pic.s and need to get a price on at least one if not two of them. With the MCOB, storage is tricky as it is. I never go out without anchor and sufficient gear and with the rear bench set-up as coolers (really like that BTW), I need some additional storage space. I'm afraid of the shipping cost though-- I like your wide angle shots and I have to say that is one dedicated and hard working 1st mate you have there! |
Give Jeff or Chris a call, they don't weigh a lot, but they are fairly volumetric if packaged.
My buddy Rob took a lot of great wide angle shots that trip. Hes a fantastic photographer, and has lots of glass. http://i.imgur.com/CzoJZAq.jpg |
I'm wondering why you don't have any... Not sure it's an option or special request. Thought it might be standard...

Guys, just caught up with the thread. I did not order the boxes in my 2750. I had experience with them in my 27 Sabre Cat and they tended to get in my way so I took them out until I sold the boat. Winter is hanging on, isn't it? Quent

Yeah, one of the things I really like about the boat is the space to work in the engine bay. That's why I will devise some quick mount system to be able to get them in and out easily. I'm struggling about where to put an anchor (don't leave home without one) and with everything being so pristine, I figure those storage bins are just the ticket. When I started reading your reply, I was hoping you were going to say you had a set.... Don't tell me about winter; jeesh, it was 18 degrees this morning up here. Cheers, Paul |
GoodTrade 2750-
All as said above is true. Lavey has the molds for them and builds them in house. Also, I believe Lavey still has SOME carbon/kevlar material at the shop from the original build of your boat. It would be cool to gel coat the storage liners with clear coat and use the carbon/kevlar for the first laminate so they will flow with the rest of the engine compartment. Just a thought. Ask Lavey when you call them! |
