Default GPS transducer for steeped hull

I have a 2004 29 NuEra 525 efi and the depth finder does not work at any speed past idle. I am installing a Garmin 94sv plus and I am wondering if I will be able to use it while on plane and which transducer will work with the stepped hull.

I'm about to install a depth sounder on my 29 as well. Everything I have read is it needs to be a transom mount transducer in order to get accurate readings. We tried two different in hull (no cutting) models and neither would read.
