My new (old) 27 Sport......

Re: My new (old) 27 Sport......
The x Dimension is the measurement of "the crank centerline to the boats keel . (as I remember ) ". This is how mercury defines it .
I think a 16" X would put the prop shaft around 3.5" to 4" below the keel .
An overly high X will let the boat run faster but at the expense of ;
prop blow out , excessive prop slipping at low speed , problems carrying the bow ; etc.
From speaking with other people , I heard the optimum X on the magnum 27 for a good balance of speed and handling is from 16-17 " .

Thanks for the info. 16-1/2" then. From what I understand now; you find the center of the transom, measure out from the ctr. 17" in both directions and mark a vertical line. That puts the drives 34" apart (Sm. blocks 32-34" Big blocks go 36" apart.) Then measure up that line 16-17" and thats your crankline ctr. or x-dimension. The cut out template is marked with the crankline center. Cut on the line and your done.
