P5-21 is alive
1 Attachment(s)
Well after 3 years of a complete rebuild of this old magnum sport, now with a 2003 starfire deck, single big block conversion and new black gelcoat, this baby will be making her racing debut in her hometown of Chattanooga TN, Oct 14-16. Just a little prop work and some fine tuning on the carb, and finish the graphics and we will be good to go. Here is a sneak peek of the boat running minus the engine hatch and air scoop.

Magnum27, thanks for that info. The I.T.S is about 10K right?
What do you speed you have on the 27 Magnum? Thats cool that you had a brand new starfire deck from Magnum Marine. So they still building the starfire if somebody order one? Heres a shoot of a 28 Arrow (splash from Don's race boat from -67) Mine is HD-raceorange |

Re: P5-21 is alive
[QUOTE=Robert Geoghegan]Mag 27,
Your boat came out great! How did you do at the race? Thanks Robert, well Friday in the Kilo's we did well being only less than a mile an hour from the leader, Saturday we ran the lap runs around the track and on our first run posted a respectable time but on our second run we wound up blowing the engine. It seems the engine leaned out and popped a piston. Not to much damage though, it isn't trashed, just will need to be taken apart and a few parts replaced. Hope to build a duplicate engine as well for a backup. But unfortunately we were not able to run in Sunday's race. But however I did get recruited to be the throttle man for the SVL Hometown Morgage boat and man what an experience that was!! Being in that canopy at 94 miles an hour was incredible. I also did the Kilo's in it on Thursday two. Bob Mazikowski's Phantom really liked my 140 pound weight in the throttle seat, it made that boat perfectly balanced. So much that he asked me to run with him on Sunday since I was free from running my boat. All in all it was one great weekend even though I blew my engine. We will be ready for next spring that is for sure, I am hooked |
Re: P5-21 is alive

Re: P5-21 is alive
Magnum 27,Your boat looks great.I know how much time and work you had to put in it.The last time i seen it,it was on a tow rope behind Vixen in Lauderdale in 2001 after the opra race,if i remember right. When George an i were compairing boats in St Cloud that year he said he wieghd in ai 6200#.Did the boat lighten up any after the new deck an trns assembly.I know the boat could take rough water a lot better then Vixen, but was not as fast.Best of luck on 2006,an will be looking to see you out thier.

Re: P5-21 is alive
Magnum 27,Thanks for the comeback.George was running a 502 500 at the start of 2001 and the boat was very slow even in P5.At the Sarasota i told him about somthing i was playing with for Vixen that would give her a extra 10 mph,but i couldnt seem to get the bugs out.In Lauderdale in sept.he was a lot faster and could have run with the P 4 boats easy.I know he blew that eng. in practice in St.Pete and put in a used eng. in the pits just to make the start.

Re: P5-21 is alive
Mag 27,
Do you plan on racing any OPA races next year? No entry fees, rough water and great competition here in P5. Bob |
Re: P5-21 is alive
Bob,First let me say that what the Jersey Boyz and John Haggin are doing for offshore has got to be the best thing to ever happen to the sport.Five years ago i would have been the first in line to race.I may do 2 or 3 races with Vixen in 2006,but i have to stay with the smoother water like St Cloud,Frt Myers because its home and Chatt.TN.or somthing else that fitts.

Re: P5-21 is alive
Mel,
Maybe I'll see you at the Ft. Myers race-if there is one. I'll be running a 24 Sunsation. How about you Magnum 27? Are you going to come and do any NJ OPA races? Your Magnum would probably do well in the rough. |
Re: P5-21 is alive
Bob, That boat of Magnum is second to none when it comes to rough water. He did a complete lap an a half on Vixen running in 8 footers in 2001 in Lauderdale, and he was in p 5 an we were in 4.I think i got the Freeze Frame film of him around here someplace.I know it was one of the few boats to finish before the coast gaurd shut it down. And i hope theres a Frt.Myers race too.

Re: P5-21 is alive
Gee Guys,I didnt mean to cause everybody to clam up after i offerd to send a film of Lauderdale.I always studied the compition,i liked to know everthing i could about the way other teams raced, like how they took a corner or how many times did they not finish and a lot more things that are not important now.Anyway I wish all you guys a Merry Christmas and a Happy an SAFE New Year.
