Default Magum 25 vs. 28 Maltese

I am a previous Magnum owner of a 73 Sedan, and am looking to get another Magnum. I have a lead on the 28 Maltese (blue with white top sides on OSO) and a yellow 25'.

The 28 has been completely redone and looks like a new euro boat, EXCEPT the drive train...she has the old small blocks and Volvo drives.

The yellow 25 (on the Magnum brokerage page) has had the windshield reduced down to improve the look, new paint, but still looks like a very dated boat, BUT she does have new power...a single NON EFI bigblock with a bravo.

The 25 actually looks to have a bit more room with the larger cockpit and step down cabin. The 28 shows much better, has twin (although old) power and seems to be more desireable for resale. The 25 can be bought for just a few thousand dollars less...WHICH SHOULD I BUY???

Smyldoc

PS: How would each compare to my redone 1983 Apache 33 center console with efi bigblocks in terms of speed, agility, ride, roominess (obviously 33 CC much more room), freeboard, resale value??

By the way, the blue maltese with the euro look dash and old volvo's can be bought for 30,000. The 25 with the new big block Bravo, can be bought for 25,000. I actually think both seem a bit high.....the Very difficult to sell in the future 25, and the undesireable volvo with old power on the maltese.

I also saw the redone red and white sport in california at 50k, which has been reduced to 40,000 now. Its got the 400HP small blocks to TRS with nose cones. I just have in my mind that the "sport" looks small...they seem to have almost NO cockpit room, and the freeboard appears to be less. Please steer me in the right direction with my limited knowledge, and correct my assumptions if not accurate.

Thanks again,

SMYLDOC

I've got a 27 sport. You're right cockpit is tight and freeboard is lower than a lot of newer boats but I've never had that be an issue, regarless of the conditions. Great driving boat. Not the fastest in the world but top speed doesn't matter much when everyone else ran to a cove or packed it in & you're slicing the chop like it's hot butter.

The 27' is the way to go, but that is my opinion. A 28' Cigarette SS would be a great second choice. I think Magnum, I think 27', end of discussion. Yes, it is a low profile boat, and there is not alot of cockpit room. That 27' in California is a nice looking boat that had ton of work done to it, that would be (to me) a zillion times nicer than a 28' or 25' (sorry 25' and 28' owners, but those models just don't do it for me). I realize my answer in non-responsive to the question you asked.

Since that is the question at hand is 25' or 28', I would go with the 28' Maltese, that resembles the 27' more so than a 25'. Screw my opinion, buy the boat that best fits the type of boating you do.

Thanks SMARTY. I appreciate your advice. We have found 3 others on BOATTRADER.COM which also look very nice. I will check some additional pics.

Any other nice ones available?? I really do want to stay away from the old volvo's and old small blocks. I'll take new volvo's or Bravo's or even TRS, if well maintained.

If I hear of a Sport or Starfire that has that combo I will touch base. Keep looking, and good luck in your search.
