Question Anyone try a single Arneson on a 27 Sport?

I've got a 27 Sport that will be re-reigged as a BBC single. I'm looking into the possiblity of running an Arneson. What do you think? The boat would be run mostly as a class 5 racer. I've seen twin Arnesons on a 27, but never a single. I'm interested in this because of the reliablity issue compared to a Bravo. Your thoughts/suggestions appreciated!

Although not a 27, I did put one on my 20'Donzi with success.
What kind of torque are you looking at?

I think it would be a great idea. The drives have minimal moving parts and their design is inherently reliable. Also a cinch to service.

I am just finishing up exactly what you describe. I have a 27 with an Arneson standoff box, 17-21 drive and B&M 2 speed. I will try to figure out how to post pictures later.

Hallj and 41 Hat,
Thanks for the replies! I can't wait to see pics of your set up! I'm in no rush to get her done-I have a class 6 OPA boat now, looking to step up to class 5 next year. There is a 17-21 on Ebay now. If I only had money to spare ....

Default Arneson Photo

These are pretty bad photos but they start to give you an idea. I have never posted a photo before so I hope this works.

Robert,

Give Rik over at Arneson a call. He will answer all of your questions you could possibly have. I can't find his number but google Arneson surface drive and there should be a number on the website.

Thanks MH,
Rik responded to an email I sent to Arneson. He recommended a #7. This is a project boat that I will start working on this summer.
