25 Sport
You can find the Hull ID number on the transom, starboard side just below the rub rail starting with MAG 25 ....... only 35were built from 1972-1975. All I will be able to do is verify that it is a Magnum, date built and for who. Bud

no id
I checked the transon and the engine compartment and did not find anything. Its a repaint but the original gell coat is pea green and it has a back seat rather than an engine box, it also has a single volvo drive if any of this helps.Did anyone other than magnum use these molds because this boat is definitely the same. What kind of power would you want for this boat if you want to stay kind of middle of the road. I will post some pic in a couple days maybe that will help.....thanks wes

Attached is a copy of the original sales sheet in the last post.If you can't find the Mag ID # on the transom check for a hand written one under the dash,or a metal tag in the engine bay.If you cant't find one it could be a copy or it has been re-titled

no numbers
I talked to a person who owned it in the mid 90's and it did not have any hull numbers the either, but he did say he contacted magnum and they sent him some info on it. I guess the guy that had it before him re-titled like you said . Do you have any suggestions on how I can find out which hull # this thing is, because I'm at a loss. Bud thanks for the help, my wife is a huge magnum fan and this is a suprise for her and I just want to do it right.....wes

Hull ID
Your still missing the most important #'s
MAG 250080273 is the other Pea Green unit which is located in Port Royal Bermuda.# 8 is the 8th unit built,273 indicates the keel was layed Feb,1973.You need to see if you can ID the next two numbers. Bud |
I don't even think CSI Miami can read them, and they are ground down damn near to the the plywood core. At least I know now its a magnum hull and I can get the project started. Thanks for the help again and I will post some pics soon....wes... p.s. this is an awsome web site

Hey Wes ,
I'm just finding this thread of yours now ........ I have the other green 25 .. it is MAG250080273 as Bud stated above. My brother was at the factory a couple of years ago and there are only one or two of the employees from back then still around. It was according to them that only two were made green. One was ours .. a single engined 310 ChrisCraft engine with 270 Volvo the other was the twin engine "Brochure boat" that must be yours ! We undertook a two and a half year full/total restoration as we started out with the hull and deck only NOTHING ELSE ! It is now a single 502 B3 with full engine box like a twin installation and was re-done dark blue and white ... |

Post some pictures...before and after. Bud

thanks for your reply , there is some glass work on the transom ,but I was thinking it had thru hull at one time and glassed over the holes . It very well could have been outdrives I never thought of that. If so can anyone tell me how big the the original holes would have been ? I am going to start sanding the hull this week and ill take a closer look.... wes

I just bought this magnum from wes about a month ago, and am going to get started stripping it down toward the fall. as soon as i get it moved to my place ol throw up some pictures of it. Ive been around the block before with these older boats. my dad and i picked up a 1969 18' donzi 2+3 and redid that a few years ago. if anyone has any pictures or helpful info about the 73 25 magnum id be more then glad to hear from you. Also i am looking for either a 454 or 502 fresh water cooled, with the transom assembly and drive too. so if anyone could keep their ears open for me thatd be great too

Lighten the load 25 sport
I agree with Mike, that is why we are increasing the small block Crusader from 300 hp to 400 hp...less weight. Also tieing the two sides together with a seat 4-6 ft from the transom will stiffen up the 25 sport. That was a problem they had with the fishing model...also the deck and sides are only screwed together, some were glassed a little bit however that did lead to some of it's current problems.

Boatnuts converted from twins to singles on his 25 and is a wealth of knowledge on the subject.
Michael, I am not sure that the hull would respond well to a single 300x. They laid them up heavy back in the day and the 300x is $15k motor alone. The older Promax 300 might be a far less expensive option if that is the path. |
25 Magnum
Greg, I have 2-'98 Pro Max's & 1-'03 300X in my garage, all with Sportmaster l/u.... short money. Michael "HIGH LIFE"

now i couldnt slap a 300 merc on there, then whose gonna work on it when it breaks every other day out? all the new outboards are strictly electronic and bull**** to even diagnose. i picked up a 502 package from the motor back to the bravo 1 with stainless marine exhaust and hydraulic steering for 4500. so im gonna adjust the boat to handle that motor. im sure the boat will sit a little deeper but it will be worth having the extra power. also my dad and i have almost set on minds on getting rid of the v-berth and just putting deck all the way forward and building a custom center console for it. anyone have any thoughts on that?
|
As I said in an earlier post, you need to tie the two sides together. That is key. Bud
|
gotcha, we were planning on putting the bench seat back in there just like it came, but stiffen up the bulkhead and seat with an extra layer of dbm glass. i just wanted to make sure that no one had try to do this and found out that the boat didnt want to perform right. i was just curious because these boats didnt exactly come with hammers i nthem from the factory. :lolhit:
