I do not believe the Starfire was made in 1976, they came later around 1978.

starfire?

Well after searching around here in the forums most of the night i found a few different post refering to the boat being wet, and to much to work! fella claims it's a 76 starfire at any rate he also says it's the ex- l a express. It's only across town so i may still have a look. Thanks

Hello Mark,

I have to agree with you, As I was the the Magnum Factory in 76 and 77 and they were still only building the 27 Sports.
I remember when they announced the Starfire and it was at least 1978.

Thank you
Jim

You do have the LA Express, it is not a Starfire but a sport. Send tfalk a pm, he can tell you the history of this sport.

Jason.....What are you doing on here?? You should be getting my scarab ready for the summer!!:party-smiley-004:

jeff1000man 04-17-2010 07:45 PM

Mine is a 77. My title says sport, but a lot of people refer to it as a starfire. Some have said it was the first starfire. I don' really know, but it is a cool boat. Soon to be back in the water. :coolcowboy:

mr vinyl 04-17-2010 09:25 PM

Jeff check it against the build list that I published. Bud

Looks like LA Express used the Cheap Thrills pic. :picard1: Sadly owner Steve Fussell has past, but Rich Schieferstein [the green gumby offshore referee] :evilb: is still with us. :ernaehrung004: I will ask Rich if he has any pic's of her that he can send me.

Hull and Hin #

Hull# and Hin # are the same...I have always referred to it as a Hin # (Hull Identification Number). Bud

Also check out my other site Magnumboatrestoration.com

your resto site was the one i was referring to. very nice!
so in the build list you posted magnum lists the hull # as a 3 digit#, so is it the first 3 numbers? or?

Right you are, she was the Mad Mother....:drink: I thought about getting her when it was for sale last year but I have to many classics already that are in restoration. I never knew why they were setting her up for Alpha drives after repairing the transom . This will take much work to bring her back to her glory days but should be well worth it. :ernaehrung004:

i couldnt agree more on the alphas! im thinking hard about redoing the intire thing. stringers and transom. and dropping the floor as low as possible as its set up now for step down in front cockpit area. what ever i do, keep the alphas ( limitimg my hp) or going to bravos, im very excited to get going. it will definitly be well worth it!

How to read Hin #'s

Here is how you read a Magnum# ...MAG280680376
MAG28...boat style 28 Maltese,Mag27...27 Sport ,Mag25...25 Sport
068...hull#
0376...built / keel laid March 1976

Hope this helps out. Bud

bobo1 04-19-2010 01:47 PM

Jason...go to the "classic offshore" section, a couple more pics of your mag Cig3 dug up.

bobo1 04-19-2010 02:15 PM

Also... i got a perfect recipe for your boat. 1 chainsaw and a pair of 1350 mercs, backed up with some m8s!:evilb:

bobo1 03-14-2011 09:38 AM

Jason............... I'm gonna keep putting this thread back to the top to remind you to get started on your Mag until you finish her!:evilb:

hahahaaaa !!! the goal this spring is to get the donzis in the water. then possibly start redoin the transom and stringers on the mag. and set up for bravos. see you soon

bobo1 03-16-2011 06:52 PM

spring is in the air..... I would love to just stare at the hull after your glass guy got thru with it! no better lines in a 27 than the mag, cigarette squadron 27 and maybe the new GTMM27. Jason....did you see that 27 squadron resto boat in the classifieds? it's the Cigarette tribute boat. It is sick! Richie Zul 900hp Merc 6 drive, check out the OSS classifieds under Cigarette. Hell lets sell our boats and buy this one!
