Electrical Help Panel Lights Maltese!
Help! 35 years Magnum owner, never seen this one. Panel light switch off, Starboard batteries on,
starboard engine starts. Yeah. Turn on panel lights all good, engine runs, panel lights on. Yeah. Turn off ignition switch, engine stays running!!? WTF? Push in panel light switch, engine shuts off?!! WTF? Any ideas? I am stumped for the first time in 35 years of replacing stuff from bow to stern. Could be I am just fried after a 2 year resto. Jeff |
Electric is back feeding from the lights switch to the ignition to the other. I would check to make sure only the ground wires are common to the gauge & lights as the + on the gauges comes from the ignition, & again check the hot 12 volt feed..

Thank Mark,
I figured as much. I hope it is as simple as a wire or two on the wrong posts on the Voltage Gauge. Keep you posted. Thanks again, Jeff |
Fixed it!
Mark,
After staring at it, thinking about, connecting, disconnecting, cussing, etc. for several hours on Sunday trying to solve this issue, I went back yesterday and fixed it in about a minute and a half! I had put the bracket that holds the voltage gauge on upside down and it was touching both the light post and the hot post! The bracket is flat on one side and has a curve cut on the other side to clear the posts. All I had to do was flip it over!! Seen it immediately and it literally took one minute to fix it!!! Told you i was burned out!!! All is good with the universe! Thanks again for the reply. Jeff |
