Having restored my Starfire and converted it from TRS to Bravo drives, this is my experience. Cig3 is spot on imo, a standard/ factory TRS/small block setup should like a 3blade Mirage plus turning out the best.(maybe another 3blade as mentioned, I have not tested them) I'm not sure about turning that combination inward. I think that 3blades with your setup like the leverage and stern lift of turning out. With big blocks, bravos with a 17 1/4" X dim and nosecones, 4blade B1 props, my boat handling vastly improved turning in vs turning out but it is a totally different animal. 4 blades create more stern lift but have less leverage to carry the bow due to the raised Xdim. so turning in improved all characteristics of trim and tracking.
Hope this helps - M |
Short Circuit runs very well with 4 blade 24p Bravo 1 props...

Hi Mark,
Could you please put some numbers to the " runs very well on 4 blade 24p Bravo I`s. I have tried a set of those and found that the boat ran 3 mph slower than my 3 blade 14 x26 cleavers and was just as fast out of the hole. I would very much like to try the same props at 28" pitch or cut down a pair of 15 x 26" 4 blade cleavers to 14" dia. I am looking for 75 MPH at around 5600 RPM. Jeff Hall was in the back today at 73 MPH on a pair of Old 28" pitch Mercury Choppers at 5000 RPM so we are close to where I want to be but not on it yet. Ian |
Tell Jeff to duck his head down, you'll probably pick up 1-2mph
|
I spin 32's

Fortunately, he did. But I think that it was the cold wind that caused that.

Ah, yes, but aren't you running big blocks?

Thanks guy's, good info. Years back my Dad had a IMP which is similar to a Magnum Sedan, and it needed Bow lift to make it run. It had good balance where my Magnum seems to bow up at the least amount of wake. When I use a little K-Plane, it helps the balance so turning them outward should help.
Now I have to wait all winter to try therm outward. Thanks again, Einar |
Thanks Mark,
We have a wide range of data now across a number of different propellers. The number one priority is easy out of the hole. Our little 14 x 26, 3 blade cleavers do that with a full boat load of both fuel and people at 3500 rpm, up and out, no fuss. However the slip at the top end is over 26% so we need more grip, but with what is the question ? Ian |
