speedo pickup
 

Can someone give me an idea on how far below the bottom of the boat the speedo pickup should be. I know it depends on how fast and how close to the Keel, but mine is just outside the water pickup for the starboard engine. Speed is only about 55mph, it starts losing psi at around 45 mph. It is just the standard plastic pickup, even though it said it was a high performance one, I know I have to get or make a nice stainless one.

it should be right below the keel.Buy a new stainless one and it should come with proper directions.

Directions! We don't need no stinking directions! Well maybe in this case.
I would have thought right below the keel would be easily damaged? I noticed a stainless one that will kick up if hit. I' think I'll try that one then under the keel.
