I was at Desert Storm in April and MTI had its game on. First two boats leading the pack were Mike DeFrees in his 42 then Randy Scism in the new 36. Didn't see any V-hulls for a while after that. That Fountain could beat most V-hulls and should be called the V Killer. Put it up against equally powered cats with professional drivers and say "Adios".
|
I fail to see how this video will help sell boats at a new Fountain dealership. Tacky.....
|
Fountain markets their product to the "style is more important than substance" crowd. These people aren't looking here and making analytical decisions on their performance boat purchase. They look at bling, a low monthly payment and how they can be "faster" that the majority of the other boats they'll encounter in a warranteed, turn-key, low-maintenance boat. All courtesy of the Reggie Fountain Magic Formula that no other builder has to date been able to duplicate, match or even copy.
And videos like this and the rest of the never ending stream of $hit his PR department churns out definitely appeals to the guy I just described. |
Sounds like alot of people are VERY jelious of the "cat killer". :grinser010: The boat is flippin awesome --- get over it !

That is where is stops. The cats of equal size/HP would KILL that thing in any water except 8+ footers and maybe even then considering the layup it has. :food-smiley-007: |

I'm in awe of everything Reggie does. They should erect monuments to him in every city and town, and they should be made of solid gold- all but the Shinola hairdo. That would be some amazing all-powerful new polymer invented by Reggie himself. Oh, my. I just love Reggie and his boats. I want to have his babies. Do me Reggie, do me on the deck of Cat Killer! Give me your seed! I want your babies!!! I'll name them all Reggie!!! |

Yep, it's meeeee!
I'm just having a Reggie day. I'm going to the store in a little bit and buy a giant enema bag. Then I'm going to stop at Borders and buy every copy of Powerboat Mag. I'm going to tear out all the Fountain ads and puree them in my blender with a quart of Stoli and an urn of fresh Maxwell House, then I'm going to give myself an enormous Reggie Fountain enema. If I have to have Reggie's nonsense rammed up my a$$ constantly, then by God, I'll do it my self and I'll find a way to enjoy the experience! (As I'm typing this, the little blinking banner ad below me is the "world's fastest v-bottom UIM 177.883MPH. Aw, f uck it.) |

Someone should break his V-Bottom Kilo record...Any takers?
"Crickets Chirping" |
Chris, tough day at the shop? The dwarf with the doo has made and will continue to make really fast boats. Not my brand. He is like Ali and boxing, he wakes up the avarage joe and puts the rush of adrenaline in you making you think you too can be a racer. Most of us on OSO have heard it all before but he is one of the only mfg that can put up or shut up. He has charisma and an arrogant style that pi$$es a lot of people off, kinda like most OSO members with our fast flashy boats that makes the Rif Raf at the docks jealous. Yes I said Rif Raf, I guess I am a little arrogant too, yeah right, a lot arrogant too!!

Furthermore, poker runs are geared towards private boat owners. They do not have the resources or sponsors as you,a manufacturer.
Why don't you stop the smoke and mirrors and bring "cat killer" to an event with the same horse power as those you claim to beat??? Next you'll probably hire Billy Mays as your pitch man! Oh yea, great showing at the NYC Poker Run! |

But mark my words. He'll turn this place into poweboat Magazine. This will become Reggie Fountain's Offshore Only. Plus, I don't like the constant talking $hit. Greatness is self-evident. Lastly, Cat Killer isn't a Fountain. |

That I doubt. No question in my mind he has the fastest V and has backed that up time and time again. There was no way that one test with a GPS that was faster than his was a legit record run. We run GPS on our RC boats with timed record runs and radar guns, all on the same pass. The timed two way average is always slower by a bunch. It's just the Cat Killer thing that gets me. If he had named the boat Vee Killer, no problem.
Sorry -1- was there and that was the Bacardi Silver or Bud or what ever you wanna call it. Othere than that there was NONE. Thats why Reggie named the boat cat killer. And back then there was proof of that to. Even today there are only a few cats that can beat that boat. And even i will never own a Fountain (to much $$) i love that boat ,its just awsome.:D |

I don't like Reggie because of the constant big talk and the smoke & mirrors. He constantly plays the shell game on this Cat Killer thing. It's never straightforward. He tells the world he builds the fastest, safest most well-built powerboats in the world. He builds the Chevrolet of offshore boats. Not bad, not the best by any stretch. Sure he's done alot for the industry, but only through osmosis. He's done alot for himself. There are alot of builders that put together better boats that could be had for the same or less but have been crushed by Fountain. Fountain only survives because Brunswick desperately needs him to. He's a major conduit for their hardware. I'm glad I didn't invest all I had in the FPB stock at the IPO in '85. I believe it was $9. Had it followed the market (Dow closed out '85 at 1500), Reggies stock should be worth about $66 at yesterday's close. It closed at 95 cents. Ouch. So no, I don't respecty him as a businessman. I'd respect the Hell out of Reggie if he just went out there, told it straight and did it- win or lose, fastest or second-fastest. But that's not him. He's a cross between P.T. Barnum & Napoleon Bonaparte. |

Seriously, Reggie is on the move. Mark my words, if we sit idly by, this site will be all Reggie, all the time. |

Correct, awsome boat, for a V. Would you put any money on where it would place in P1 in a sanctioned race with the top 9 cats and itself? What would be your best guess? That's all I'm saying. And I believe Callan ran 203 in the Shootout back in 2003 and Bud ran 190 in 2001 in APBA, 20 to 30 mph faster than Cat Killer ever ran. That was even before it was built, let alone named. Look, all four of my boats are V's, but I would not run any against a similar setup in a Cat for $. And if I do go beat a cat on a given day, I'm for sure not going to sound like Tripple Digits, (Reggie Jr:D), bragging to the world that I'm a Cat Killer.

The next challenge for Panasonic Rio Roses Fountain Mercury race boat will be to take on the Unlimited Offshore World Speed Record. Although Fountain Powerboats claims the current record, set at 171.888 mph by a Fountain 42' Lightning with twin 1,500-hp Sterling engines, the Fountain team feels the #15 race boat can beat it. "There is going to be a new Kilo," Knight announced, referring to a measured-distance challenge. "We'll raise the current speed record at that event, and we'll do it before the Miami boat show."
Quote from Fountain in November 2006.:D The Bud also ran over 180 in 2000. I also think Bacardi Silver ran 203 in 2003. Don't really want to get into this, almost bought a Fountain SC instead of the BT. Liked the BT a little better for speed with the same power. But it was very close. |
171mph???????????????

2001 APBA National & World Champion APBA Kilo Record - 188.858 MPH APBA Kilo One-way Speed 190.054 MPH Also two way average set at Reggies record trials in NC. |

it sounds like alot of people think Cat Killer was the boat the set he Kilo record of 171. With the info that I have from someone close to fountain, cat killer has been over 190 when testing some high hp motors, but one of the engines let go.

...and it's all a load of $hit.
Top fuel hydros run quite a bit faster than any of them and they're not offshore boats either. This top speed garbage is just that- garbage. Speed is only one facet of what an OFFSHORE boat needs to have. Fountain has been very successful in changing the conversation- talking about building offshore boats and proving their capabilities on glass-smooth water. |
He who has the most advertising dollars wins...Period. Just like back in the '90s when Reggie, piloting his own 10meter got his azz handed to him by a po-dunk boat builder in Alabama in a 21 footer called a Stryker. Hot Boat Mag covered the test session and after his azz was handed to him, Reggie told the mag that if any of that got printed he would pull all of his advertising in the mag. Big surprise here, that article never ran...Stryker (who did not have an advertising campaign with the magazine) eventually went out of business & Fountain is still the chit (according to the propaganda).
