Running the chop of the Chesapeake Bay - Cig 27 Squadron

Chesapeake Bay - just outside of Annapolis - A few clips from testing mounting points for the go-pro, taken on my birthday during the last run of the season - Nov. 11 2013.

1981 Cigarette 27 Squadron - 548ci, Konrad/huber setup, spinning a labbed 29 mirage plus in the videos - was also prop testing - three blades suck, and slip way too easy in the chop.

First video shows that it looks like the hood scoop was just too flexible to hold the suction cup - always use a safety line!!

Nice man. What top speeds were you hitting during your prop testing? The engine sounds real healthy. I just gave in to the weather and winterized the engine this past wknd. what prop did you end up with best results? I am running a Checkmate 251 in the same area of the bay in your video.

All the props I have are too large. I went big on my cam and heads in my rebuild last spring, and had to drop my blower plans, so I'm left a little low on torque. I can only turn them up to maybe 5,100, and my power peak is up at 5,800 with dart 345 heads and alot of cam.

I have a the following props, all LH, some are for sale :D
mirage plus 26p - (for sale)
mirage plus 29p labbed
Hydro QIV 27p - (for sale)
bravo one 26p - (for sale)
bravo one 28p labbed

Previous motor the boat ran the fastest with the 29 mirage plus at 77mph at 5,100. They all run about the same rpm, but never checked all the speeds - but they handle completely different. The 3 blades are left over from running a trs - didn't want to stress it - they have too much slip and grab in the chop, expecially now that I am about 1.5" above the old stock TRS drive height, I figure I'm going to have to go to a Hydromotive P5x at maybe 24P I figure - I ran one that was too large a few years ago, and loved everything about how the boat handled - perfect bow lift, great cruise speeds, and the prop was hooked up like slicks at the drag strip. I'm actually glad I didn't go with the shorty drive, because I like to be able to stay on the throttle as much as possible in water like this.

Rpm in the videos was only 4000 -4,500 and probably running in the 60's - I wasn't out for top speed, and was just enjoying the water conditions

PS - the old original trim pump that runs my hatch was low on fluid - that's why you see the hatch coming up in second video - had to keep hitting the down button.... Then in the last video I had to cut throttle and stop because it had opened all the way up!! :D

Looked like a fun day to be on the water, thanks for sharing.
