Hampton Area Ramps
Looking for a good ramp around the Hampton area that is safe for leaving the trailer overnight. Lots of calls today only revealed 3 public ramps, one near salt ponds and the other near Bluewater, the other was the Newport News park by the James River bridge,
Any suggestions? Thanks Rick |
I have never used any of the ramps up there but the one at Newport News park is not in the best area, not sure if I would leave a truck there overnight. The one by Bluewater is in a nice part of Hampton, the owner of Bluewater has a about a 7K sq ft house next to the ramp so it cant be too bad of an area. parking lot seems kinda small. There are a couple ramps all the way up by Grandview in Hampton, kinda out of the way. If you cross the bridge the Willoughby Ramp is a good ramp also.

See my post here if you want - May or may not be of any help.
http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/m...th-july-2.html Not Right is correct - I haven't used it in a LONG time but the public ramp beside Bluewater is probably a good bet. I'll be using it in about 3 weekends and could give you a status update if you'd like. I think the NN/Hunting Park ramp is REAL nice but it isn't the best part of town, although it is a BIG WIDE open parking lot beside a busy street and might be patrolled. There is also one on the west end of Denbigh Blvd (in denbigh, VA) that would dump you right out in the James River (never used it). You drive through a ****ty part of town but I think the area the ramp is in is actually quite nice. |

The best boat ramp in the area is Portsmouth City Park.
140 City Park Ave. Portsmouth, VA 23701 Plug the address into the GPS and let the truck take you there. If you have never been there before, you will have to pass through a graveyard, then a golf coarse, which is attached to City Park. The ramps are all the way at the end of the park. It's free and has a security patrol. Good parking and an overflow lot for over sized trailers. Stay in the channel during low tide. Better safe than sorry!! |
Thanks for the help, had a great time at Rudees and looking forward to a run to Lynnhaven, like to keep from towing through the tunnels, plus need to leave some of the trip by the water. Also found a good ramp at Crown Pointe Marina around the bend from Gloucester, Thanks again, will log these ramps into the GPS,

The public ramp beside bluewater is a NO GO. I rode down today to check it out and you are not getting a 33 outlaw launched there unless you show up on a full moon high tide during a nor-easter. The "End of Ramp" sign is about 3 pilons in, and they have permanent signs attached warning of concrete debris at the bottom of the ramp.
The Huntington Park ramps were REALLY nice, great angle, and plenty of distance to the end of the ramp with floating piers... |
