Pro's And Con's Of Boating On Lake Norman

Thinking about possible relocation to that area , not sure what town yet but just want to know more about H-P boating there . For example are summer weekends so crowded that most go fast guy's boat only on weekday? Also could anyone post pics of hot spots or general boating there ?

Larry

I have not been there my self but my boat came from Norman It was running 90 there, the guy that had it now has a cat, think it is a skater not sure. from what i have heard there is plenty of fast boats there and lots of money(nascar drivers and owners)

Racegirl3 10-27-2009 09:20 PM

Where do you boat at now Larry? :bunny:

activatorf1 10-27-2009 09:49 PM

Northern Chesapeake on weekends and Delaware river around
Philadelphia during the week . The Northern Chesapeake is the best boating I have done in my 30 years of boating

Great !! I hate that hillbilly sport , liked it 25 years ago , not now

I boat on Lake Norman at least a couple times a month. I drive over an hour each way because it is way less crowded then the lakes around my house. It is a very large lake. I go as fast as I want just about anywhere. There are a ton of boat ramps also, so there is no wait to drop in or pull out. Jeff wurl

Racegirl3 10-28-2009 07:17 AM

Heres some sites that might help you. Ive only been boating on LN in May (race weekends :D), but the boating was great, the people were wonderful and the sites were beautiful

Get hold of Vagrant (Dave) he's on here every now and then. He lives there and bought our 42 Sonic a few years ago.

Is that his login name?

Oh yea.... When looking and thinking of the lake it is like a "Y" where you have two long fingers and like a tail.

Get some one to chim in when Poker Runs of America was here and how long it took them to do the lake. You won't be able to run 80 for very long. Of coarse - I don't know what its like to run 80 unless I am falling off a cliff, lol.

I come from boating in NE OH on inland lakes there and Erie. I don't find LKN that crowded or rough but others it is all they b*tch about.

Tons of bars and dinning on the lake. The Rudder, Vinnie's and Exit 36 are my favs.

I rack store in Denver at Westport. They can handle up to 29 - 30 and I highly recommend them if that is your route.

Of coarse there is a giant tie up place and a seperate cock tail cove. I don't frequent the tie up place which is called the Sand Bar often as it is in a wake zone (why the f they would put the place to be here I have no clue) as your boat can get thrashed by idiot with 3" fenders with an AL john boat and by people plowing water throwing large wakes. You could see some T & A here.

What is consider cock tail cove is cool as it is on hole 18 of one of nicest country clubs in Charlotte. No wake zone. The chances of seeing T & A here is lower.

Lake Norman

Boated down there about 5 years ago, crowed on the weekends but just fine during the week. Does not even begin to compare to the Chesapeake or the Delaware river. Also i was harrassed by the local marine police for absolutely no reason other then a go fast with a N.J. registration. Maybe they were just having a bad day and figured lets take it out on this guy, no tickets or warning was issued. You know that when you get on that lake that you can only go so far in either direction, i just got the feeling of confinement, not wide open spaces. Nothing like getting about 6 boats together on the Del. and head down the the Chesapeake Inn, Nauti Goose, Joels, or Red Eyes.

Is that Sam from Hargrove ?
