May Take a Job in Richmond, VA
I am negotiating a very nice job in Richmond that will require a relocation. What is the boating like around that area...James River, Chesapeake Bay, etc.?
What are some nice areas with decent boating access. Thanks |
Seriously, I LOVE it here in Central VA. I could go on and on.
I spent the better part of 20 years in the DC area, and my quality of life is 50,000 times better just being 100 miles south of that mess. Lake Norman. NC Smith Mountain Lake, VA Kerr Lake, NC Chesapeake Bay Entire Hampton Roads/Virginia Beach area (mouth of Chesapeake) James River from downtown Richmond clear to Hampton Roads Chickahominy River (fresh water above a point) Tappahannock River (fresh water above a point) Potomac River (from downtown Washington DC all the way to the mouth at Solomon's Island, MD) We have LOTS of choices, and some great poker runs and gatherings. I posted a few on the "Top 5 Poker Runs" thread as well. If you want to chat about it, let me know. |
Born and raised in the Richmond suburbs. 2 hours from the ocean, 2 hours from the mountains. Like Brian (Sydwayz), I love it here. As with any metro area there are some areas better than others. Who are you going to work for, in what part of town?

Ability to run up the Chesapeake Bay into Annapolis and Baltimore, MD..(Northern Bay area). You will certainly not get bored....:evilb: Chris |
Richmond is an awesome place. Unlike Sydwayz, I am still stuck in the D.C. metro area, but my wife's family is all down East of Richmond and that's where we do most of our boating in the summer. The Potomac river North of the 301 bridge sucks and boating into D.C. is in my opinion a thing to do once, and you will never want to do it again. Now, 301 bridge and South is pretty cool, there's plenty of water front bars, sharks tooth island, and easy access to the Chesapeake Bay. I have only been up the James River once to the PPP festival at Chippokes Plantation and it was a nice ride, the festival is a bit of a sh*t show, but plenty of topless women to look at. I remember reading in another thread that you are in the fire protection industry, would you be working for FLSA out of Richmond? If so, our paths may cross as I am on a few projects with them, I'm in the mechanical construction industry.
