How is Lake Gaston for performance boating any good restaurants and bars to go?

Lake Gaston is pretty awesome, and there are a handful of performance boats on the lake, but it’s predominantly wake surf boats and toons. Shady shack on the Virginia side is well worth the trip up creek, and you have more options on the North Carolina side.

How would you compare Lake Gaston to Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia

You can’t. They are night and day different, but both nice. If I had to pick between the 2, smith mountain lake all day long. It’s absolutely beautiful.

There is not much of ANYTHING on the water at Lake Gaston. That's because it's an Army Core of Engineers controlled lake, and just isn't much commercial development. SML has WAY more to do and places to go. For the most part, what you need at Lake Gaston, you need to bring it in with you (food and entertainment wise).

How is Virginia’s personal Property tax? They tax cars,trucks boats and motorcycles is that correct?

It depends on the county,. Some counties in VA actually have no PPTX for boats due to the amount of tourism and business that is generated by boats in the county.

Craney, let me know if you head over to Gaston this year. I live about 45 minutes from Kerr lake and about an Hour from Gaston.
