I am guessing Niangua or past the 34..I was in those areas yesterday and quite a bit of ice even on the main channel. I'm at the Osage 13.5 and no ice in sight. This weekend temps should get rid of most of the ice.

LV 01-17-2009 08:17 AM

what does that do to the docks? any damage?

SLOWRIDE-388 01-17-2009 09:01 AM

got down last night, lil ice around docks at Lands End.... they say 47 degrees for the high todayq we will see.

fubard 01-17-2009 09:24 AM

fubard 01-17-2009 12:57 PM

all white with a red and white strips and blue sunpad rail. im not sure if its still there anymore is your friends name Rick?

Scotty Boy 01-17-2009 06:54 PM

Wow,

I was just down there over Xmas. it was 65-70 degrees 12/26/08

I have lived on the water all my life in Southern WI. I can't believe you guys can get way with that without significant ice damage. On Lakes up here everything comes out of the water docks & lifts.

Are those motors winterized?

fubard 01-17-2009 07:33 PM

if you put deicers around your dock or lift your ok( LOTO not sure up north) Im sure the weather is much different further north to where you need to pull eveything out of the water. I remember 2 or 3yrs ago they had a real bad snow storm and the snow and ice piled up on the roofs of the docks and they caved in. Port Arrowhead lost alot of boats that winter,

catman 01-17-2009 10:02 PM

The only time ice is a problem is when the dock and lift freeze in solid and ameren lowers the lake and the ice thaws and the dock, lift, and boat fall through

the only time i recall that happening was in the early 80s we had 20"+ snow and below freezing temps for close to 3 weeks i had a srv360 searay and an imp aztec that where damaged prety bad

Exactly. The issue is when the water levels change. Most folks think it is because the lifts and docks get encapsulated with ice. Not so.

The lifts on our local lake get iced in for 2-3 months. But the lake level does not change, so it is not a problem. But if stuff gets iced in and the lake drops - problems arise.

thumper038 01-17-2009 11:19 PM

You guys got it right that little deicer keeps the ice away or thin enough so the dock/lifts will move with the changing water level.
I will add pictures tomorow most of the ice and snow is gone as usual.
made for some cool pics though!

midwest272 01-18-2009 07:22 PM

Just spent over two hours today breaking up the ice around my dock, that sucked.
They are letting the water out and the ice is moving with it.

Two weeks ago no ice, today almost 2 inches in some spots.
A deicer is on my list for next year.

HotPursuit 01-18-2009 08:57 PM

Sweet Jim sure makes for a nice photo.. I'll see ya in the summer if thats OK!! :drink:

Perlmudder 01-18-2009 09:22 PM

Had a 30 Spectre w/egg beaters on my back-in lift for awhile. All they had to do was move the bunks.

dave at summerset said since the bunks are so hight to hit the tunnel that the lift cant go deep enought to clear the drives if your drives would end up over the bunks, granted i am dealing with a 40*16 slip in a little bit of rough water at times

Steve_H 01-29-2009 01:29 PM

No doubt it's a tight fit. I have always shut the boat off as soon as the rear is started into the slip and walk the boat in the rest of the way. My slip is only 12' wide so keeping the Spectre centered while backing it in was easy. Doing it with a 16' wide slip may be a little tricky depending on the width of the cat.

thumper038 01-29-2009 03:15 PM

hey loto jim nocover yet, but i do rub up against it alot:eek:

the back in lift needs extended arms so it will go down all the way
Talk to phil he will hook you up we are on the main but the big niangua do get waves just not as bad as the 10-28 osage.
Steve H we shut it off to back it in too o chit we didnt start it no engines!!!

Anyone heard of any dock roof problems due to the ice. I have a house across from fountain view condos on the 19mm and all looks good from what i see just wondering.
