O S S Race

Does anyone know if the Horny Toad is sponsoring the race at LOTO in Sept ?
Sure hope so, I really enjoy watching the boats fly by.

I do not know one way or the other. No regatta permit has been issued by the water patrol yet. It is listed on the OSS site as being at the Horny Toad for Sep25-27th.

I sure hope so... I already have the days scheduled off work.

My only concern would be if the Toad has enough $$$ to fund the event.

Agreed, it has to cost some pretty big money to get those boats, and crews there.
It's too bad there is not some way to charge for the event, so he could re coupe some of his costs.
It's kind of like the shoot out at LOTO, lots of peeps there watching but only a fraction go to Captain Ron's and and spend any money.
Too bad LOTO chamber of commerce, or the resort association, or something along those lines doesn't get involved and help support this event. I would think the whole greater LOTO makes some money off of this event.

I was there Friday and all looked well. That rumor seems to surface every couple of months.

....................Toad Cove, Inc. owner Merlyn Vandervort, who won the right to host the OSS national championships for the first time last year, said the $50,000 purse for this year's race was an incentive to attract the world's fasted offshore power boats. He also said that sum pales in comparison to what it costs to bring the event to the Lake of the Ozarks.
"It cost me seven hundred thousand dollars to bring the race here last year," Vandervort said while watching the races Sunday from his VIP suite atop The Resort and Yacht Club at Toad Cove. "This year it was about four-hundred thousand. I was a little disappointed in the number of sponsors who bailed on me at the last minute this year. But, that's all right - it was a great weekend."
"All you have to do is take a look around and see how many people are at the lake. They wouldn't have been here in the last week of September, otherwise."
