i dont get as far as dubuque. sometimes clinton... mostly princeton beach, leclaire canal or in bettendorf. sometimes west end and buffalo. whats up your way?

cloudmaster_321 03-27-2009 01:43 PM

I've put in at Dubuque, and went to the next lock. Bout it. Can't remember the name of the beach anymore, but spent two nights there. I was basically a quarter mile or less from the lock, i believe south from Dubuque..........

you guys pull on the beach funny.... must be shallow. but looks awesome though.

4mulafastech 03-28-2009 02:42 PM

Not shallow, I'm anal and just don't beach my boat. Easier to board this way and gives the kids room to swim.

Fixxxer22 03-28-2009 03:07 PM

Ohhhh i see. yeah i just run my chit right on up there. then everyone has to get in the water to enter via the swim platform then no more sand in the boat.... but i bet there is less travel in your boat. we are always jumping in and out making drinks and grabbing beer.

You ever come to Quincy, IL Hogback Island? You like your camper top. I got a Formula 357, thinking bout gettin one. Hard to put up, or take off and store??

4mulafastech 03-30-2009 08:09 AM

Haven't made it up to Quincy yet, but is something we plan to do at some point. I have heard about Hogback Island. Is the big party on labor day weekend (Sept. 5-7) this year?

The camper top is factory and the bimini section stores under the engine hatch. It lays down and large hooks secure it in front of the engines. The front/side and aft curtains store in bags in the cuddy. We love it and use it all the time when sleeping on the boat. I can put it up solo in about 10 minutes, but it is nice to have some help getting the bimini frame attached.

4mulafastech...Did you happen to race an older 251 Checkmate Convincor last year black and white and red ..towards the end of the year. If so it was me! We raced for 20 miles from Johns Harbor past Iowa island and were neck and neck the whole way! We stopped and talked after the race and I did some adjustments and we raced a few more times....was this you? If not that other guy has a boat identical to yours!

That was me!:drink: It was in October and hardly anyone was out that day and I was cruising down the river past Kinders around 50 mph. Out of nowhere I hear you come up on my port side aired out really nice and running hard. Wish I had a camera! Your Checkmate was running right on the pad and looked good. Of course I had to open her up and you are right, we were basically running neck and neck for a long ways! I was showing 71-72 mph GPS. Nice cool air but the water was FLAT. That was a lot of fun. Taking off work tomorrow and pulling my 292 out of the garage to fire-up the engines and do some maintenance. I will keep an eye out for you this year. We hail out of Lake Center Marina.

Bigsbetter 04-02-2009 05:30 PM

Ya I guess you're right, we were'nt really racing untill after Kinders, But I had it hammered since I left Johns to cacth up to you!!!! I saw you go by just as I was leaving the ramp and told my cousin "There's a race for us"! I think you had me by a half a mph. We'll definitly have to do that again!!!

4mulafastech 04-02-2009 05:50 PM

Sounds good! By the way, wecome to OSO. You will find a lot of good information on here.

I have a bunch of friends on both sides around Bettendorf. I'd like to put in there. Where can I safely wet launch a 47 Fountain on a tandem dually trailer?

wow a 47.... the biggest of our style boat around here are a few 35 fountains 38 hustler and a 42 formula. we gotta hook up dude. anyways LeClaire has always been a good ramp. and you are so long that your stern will be in the deep stuff. the parking lot is huge and if you get out on the water before 10am you will most always get a spot. are you new to the area? i have yet to see a 47 fountain in our pool. what you got in it and can i drive?

Bigsbetter 04-02-2009 06:29 PM

Yep,, I'll agree, I've never seen anything close to a 40+ foot Fountain in our pool. 40+ foot cruiser all day, but no 40+ foot performance boats..There was that new Yellow 40' Baja that had NY stickers on it hang'n out quit a few times.

pookie 04-02-2009 07:31 PM

I'm 2 hours east but always go to Lake Michigan. I have one friend who opened an ice cream shop with a dock there and another whose sons are getting into boating.
My boat is pretty mild. Just standard triples.

Fixxxer22 04-08-2009 11:17 PM

tool131 04-30-2009 07:19 PM

The 80 mph marlin is Robby Shaffer. I road in that boat last fall wide open, racing a fountain right past Prinston Beach. He knows how to handle that boat very well. blown big block, scared the crap out of me! I live in Bettendorf, this is me.

We are also wondering about Dubuque, Ia. Area. We have 42 lightning and am thinking about trying the water out down in that area. Need a safe place to launch and not fall of the end of the ramp. We normally boat in LaCrosse but thinking since gas is a little less this year we might travel a little. Thanks in advance Jeff and Jessica

There are 2 good ramps. As soon as you come into IA on hwy 151,take Kerper Blvd exit past Hawkeye Boat Sales, then right on Hawthorne St. It is only about 1 1/2 miles. Hawkeye has a Porker Run on June 5&6 it is always a good time. Hope to see you in our pool !

We boat in Dubuque. You can put any size boat in at AY Mcdonald park / ramp. Dubuque Marina is in the same
area & has guest dockage, showers & bar. Dubuque has
invested about 300 mil. in the river front area. hotels,
two casino's and more. June 12th & 13th Hawkeye boat
sales is having there annual poker run regatta. Some years
as many as 150 boats show up. It's not LOTO or Chicago
but its nice. Like LaCrosse we have limestone bluffs with
the river between & lots of bars and I don't mean sand bars.
If your coming to Dubuque PM me and we will point you in the
right direction. Our boat is at the Dubuque Marina and we live
10 min. away. Tim:ernaehrung004:

We also boat out on the river (LaCrosse ----> north) however my oldest is going to Platteville next year so we will be out and about near the river near Dubuque so we may look you up as well.

Looking forward to it. UWP is a great college.
