Unless you get a permit then you can have 25 boats tied up (permit is free)...its getting rediculous. If you have a permit you are "supposed" to wear a lifejacket at all times when you are on the boat but if you dont have a permit that doesnt apply.
They are trying to stop the drownings and they say that the drownings occur when there are a lot of boats anchored together partying. Its ruining a lot of peoples fun and just another reason for a "safety check" |

Hey all... It seems they have been a little more lax on the 5 boat tie ups but I hear alot of people are getting "checked" still.. Definately nothing like it was in years past but just like everything else a few stupid people ruin it for everyone.
We spent the night down there a couple weekends ago and went to skeeters and they were actually pretty busy.. Eagle Creeks regular ramp is open but that water is at an in between stage where its hard to put in there. We put in at Findlay but they really don't have the parking to accomodate everyone. I would to have loved to see a 40ft. Skater come rolling thru Cove #5... There aren't alot of go fasts down there over 30' anymore.. We will probably be down this weekend if the weather holds out.. Maybe we should plan a tie up party for Labor Day weekend, get a permit and wear our life jackets like a bunch of tools.. :gfight: |
We are leaving Friday Sept 4th be there late afternoon thru monday.
We will have a 288 Sunsation, 253 Checkmate, 272 Islander, 28 Rinker open bow, and maybe a few others. |

It is good to see a thread around Lake Shelbyville. I agree with with RunningHot that Cove 5 is something.:drink: Perhaps the 5 boat tie up and random boat checks are just a temporary measure to calm thinks down a bit. I am sure the spirit of that lake will weather the storm.
calming things down a bit is a understatement , WP mentioned on our last trip down there that there were 13 deaths last year ... # 5 gets pretty out of hand :party-smiley-004: |

There are a few places that have cabins but none of them are on the water. Your best bet is to find a slip and Findlay or Lithia and then drive to a cabin or maybe even a hotel in Sullivan. Its redic that such a nice lake had no where to stay.
