Central/Southern Indiana
Any gatehrings throughout the year in Central/Southern Indiana?
|
Nothing that I know of in the very Southern tip...
|
Are you looking for baja gatherings or just something to do different? We have the hydroplane races in Evansville.
|
Just any gatherings Races, Poke Runs, or just good times and places to have fun and have a few drinks of course. I havent been to a race or poker run and gonna start going. I'm going to be buying a Nordic Heat soon and will be planning to stay over night a bunch since it has more room than my 232.
|
We go to Lake Monroe (Bloomington) a few times a year. We also go to Cumberland a few times.

And to top it off, we got stuck pulling some broke dick back to Dogtown at 2 mph while everyone came flying by at 60+ Even tho it sucked.... I'll probably go back and watch again next year. There isn't much to do around here on the water, so I guess I should support anything they do have. |
This is the first time in 10-15 years we have missed the race. We did hear they pushed everyone back some for safetly. As for the drinking...they pretty much leave you alone unless you are just totally stupid about it and being a complete idiot.
Two other things, there is a big party called Ski Day. Check it out at www.skidayontheohio.com Also, one of the local boat clubs also put on a small poker run that is ok. It ends with a band on the dock at their club and eveyone anchored out to listen. |

When is the poker run? I've heard about it, but I guess I've never seen it advertised or I don't know where to look...lol |

We went to the hydroplane races this year.... pretty ****ty time too. The friggin aqua-pigs wouldn't let us anchor where we could actually see any racing and then they sit and watch everybody just waiting to see a beer can so they can get the ticket book out.... it didn't help it was freezing out too!

Southern Indiana
I grew up on Lake Monroe and there is nothing in the way of gatherings that happens there. Now live in Evansville, Indiana and spend most weekends on Kentucky Lake in Western, Ky. The have a poker run there in June that usually draws about a 100 boats. Although many had mixed reviews of the run last year as far as I know its planned again for 2010. Be advised if you go....most of the counties around the lake are "dry" counties and lodging is limited if you dont book early.

Any info on the date? |
KY Lake Poker Run
I ran a quick search and did see anything listed yet. Walter Taylor at KY Dam Marina is listed as the contact for the 09 event. His number is 270.362.8386, Run a search on this site for "Kentucky Lake Poker Run" I did not run last year but was planning to this season. It seems there were some real problems last summer...enough to put the event in trouble for 2010.

We had unusually high water for this past years poker run in Evansville, but still a decent turn out. As far as places to go/hang out there is usually the "pump-out" or "island" which is built across from downtown. On the weekends you have to get there early to get a spot cause it fills up fast. There can be over 100 boats. They have built one the last 3 years in a row that I can remember although this past years was kind of small. As far as trips I would recommend the annual Golconda "shrimpfest" trip. Is a little over 100mi from Evansville to Golconda, IL. Its the 3rd weekend in september (I think). Most of the group leaves saturday morning and make a day out of it stopping a lot to party on the way. Last year we had the locks jam packed on the way down there. And the marina is very nice with covered slips and nice showers. We had a blast this past year.

The pump out is fun! They sure waited long enough to put it out this summer.... it was pretty small too! I didn't do the shrimpfest run this year, my running buddy was broke down and I didn't want to travel that far by myself. I did go the year before that... and from what I remember, I had an excellent time. We didn't stay tho, we came back that evening (no where to sleep on the Islander). Keep us posted on the poker run, I only have an 18 footer so this is probably the only poker run that I can do without sinking the boat...lol. |
I think it is usually the third weekend in september but the is a group of us (10-15 boats) that make a trip from cincinnati to louisville, and we use the public docks and stay in a hotel down the street from 4th street live.

I have always wanted to try Lake Monroe. Should you plan a weekend or one long Saturday or Sunday? It should take us no longer than 2 1/2 hours to get there pulling our boat.

We lived in Lafayette for 2 yrs, did Monroe a few times, Great People, but pretty small lake. We ended up getting a slip @ Cumberland and driving 4.5hrs+ (one way) every weekend.
It was worth it for us. Stay on the boat, No Kids, Get Down late Friday, Get home Late Sunday. Hard to Beat Cumberland. But then we got smart, Moved South, Now Cumberland is less than 2hrs away. |
Hey Whistler08 I grew up in Cloverdale. I am an hour from there now in Illinois. We go boating at Mill Creek Lake, over by Marshall, IL. Its small at 811 acres but the friends are Great and the water is good in the summertime. The Boat ramp and docks are nice too. Holiday weekends are jamm packed so get there early if you come then, all the rest of the weekends there is room... mostly family openbows and ski boats like any other lake I presume. We have a family safe party cove when its busy. I run a 30' Conquest Enforcer and an all white DDC-28 Challenger, and have just as much fun as everbody else plus it helps me conserve fuel w the 40mph speed limit. lol There have been some more big power boats coming over lately, which I love! Allot of great people out there and some really nice boats. Quite a few fishing boats there also and they have tournaments allot if your into that. Throw me a line if you want to tie up sometime! :boat:

KY Lake Poker Run
Date for the Kentucky Lake Poker Run this year is June 19th 2010
Find the info here: www.kylakepokerrun.com Me and a boating buddy already have reserved an 8 person condo at the dam for this year. So I am planning on the trip again. Last year(2009) I attended, it was soso but there was some nice hardware sporting around and we had allot of fun. I heard yesterday that the original organizer is setting up the 2010 event, and is expected to run smoother. Plan on going Friday and partying at the quarry as a pre-event. Remember to "PACK" your coolers BEFORE you get down there as there is allot of "DRY" areas. O and keep it in a huggy or cup also. If anyone wants to join up for the trip down, let me know, its always great to make new boating friends. I end up running into other boating friends I know down there and it really makes it more enjoyable. :drink: |
Enforcer,
That sounds like a new lake for me to get out to. I drive an hour to Racoon most of the time so it wouldnt be any different. I have lived in Cloverdale for 14 years now minus the short 1 year I moved to Avon. I hope to have a new Nordic Heat this year but if not I still have the good old Baja. Glad you told me about the speed limit because I wouldnt have paid attention to that and definately would have been over 40. Ill have to catch up with you out there and have a drink or 5:ernaehrung004: |
4th of July weekend in madison gets pretty intense. Hydroplane races on the weekend bring out the big dawgs.
We usually tie up in turn four but i would recommend sitting inside the event. Always a blast |
Two poker runs scheduled this year on the river in Evansville. One is July 10th I believe, start at Sigeco Beach at noon. Other one is July 31, not sure on the details of that one. I think this one is put on by OBC.
