One Day on the Lake (LOTO)

My husband and I are headed to Table Rock Lake for a week from Wisconsin. I'm thinking of leaving a bit early and driving to LOTO - spend two nights, one day on LOTO before heading to TRL. Any recommendations on where to stay and how to enjoy our only day on a big, big lake. Also - we have an antique 17' Century Resorter - Table Rock was nice and calm last time we were there - is LOTO similar or are we asking for trouble launching our small boat on the big lake? Thanks in advance for your help!

If its during the week, your boat will be fine, but on the weekend in the main channel it will be scary if you're not used to that kind of water.

Where to stay depends on what you are looking to do. You can get 1BR condo's and a boat slip for $100 night at Heron Bay at the 20.5mm. I have a few freinds with rental units there.

In the middle of week you should be OK. May have a couple roller come off a cruiser or two. Check out VRBO, lots of nice spots to stay and restaurants to visit on the water.

Yep, VRBO, put in Osage Beach, it's the easiest area to get in and out of and you're boat will be fine during the week, preferably not a Friday though, it starts getting busy early for the weekends and if you do stay for the weekend just take your time.

We are off to LOTO soon as well. We have found Point Randall Resort to fit all of our needs. They have great docks and their own private boat launch. They are tucked in a mile long cove off the main channel at the 3 mm, with in 20 min you have lots of great places to eat and drink at. www.pointrandallresort.com or 1-573-365-2081, the owners Michael and Paulette are great. If you stay tell them Matt& Ambers say hello.

BB, don't know when you're coming down and I see you're staying up by the Dam, there's a new watering hole that's going to open before the end of the month called Nauti Rooster, it's located up by the cruise boats at the Dam.
Dale Blue is opening it and he's a great guy that's been entertaing us FOLKS for years, you might want to try it out, I'm sure you can't miss it, have fun. :evilb:

I didnt know about this place starting up, gonna have go check it out!! There aren't a whole lot of spots in that area. Thanks for the info!

Nauti Rooster is not open yet. Maybe a few weeks or so.

Beachbum28 07-14-2011 10:49 PM

I can't wait to try this place out. is it going to be located on the the "old strip" area? Is there any connection to nauti marine?

Griff 07-15-2011 01:11 AM

Yes it is on the Bagnell Dam strip. No connection to Nauti Marine. Dale Blue has been playing at Dog Days for years and a few other venues. He finally pulled the trigger and is opening his own place. His opening date at the Nauti Rooster keeps getting pushed back because of typical LOTO construction delays.

Thanks so much for all your replies!! With our schedule the one day that we would boat on LOTO would be Saturday. I guess I'll have to let my husband make the call. We avoid our local lake (Lake Geneva, WI) on weekends due to all the boat wake - it's doable but not very relaxing. Thanks again!!

Yea, just to be clear it hasn't opened yet, anyone interested in exactly when it opens should post up and one of the LOTO regulars surely will pipe and and give the update.

We're all waiting for it to open also, so we'll know right away.

I do not think you would enjoy LOTO on a Saturday with your boat. The main channel will be 2-5' wakes. There is still plenty do at LOTO from land. You could hit one of the local on the water restaurants(there are dozens of great ones) and see what LOTO is all about.

A word of warning- If you stop at LOTO first, you will spend the rest of the vacation wondering why you did not stay there!

LOL - we really LOVED Table Rock when we spent a week there in 2008 but by the end of the week it was just a little TOO quiet for us. Was hoping to see what LOTO was all about but it almost sounds dangerous for us to spend a Saturday checking it out.

Great weekend!!

Just wanted to report back and send thanks again to everyone for the information. We ended up at Holiday Shores at the 17 MM - nice quiet cove - good launch ramp and slip for our boat. Friday afternoon we ventured to Backwater Jacks and on to Party Cove. Super storm rolled in very early Saturday morning but our boat was perfectly fine. Saturday we ended up at Golfball Cove - very nice, and we liked it a lot better than Party Cove. Ran over to Dog Days for a snack. Even took an evening cruise after dinner and saw the incredible house with the helicopter. Wow - I need to start buying lotto tics! All in all I would have to say that although we LOVED all the action and places to stop and eat, drink and be merry we prefer Table Rock. It seems cleaner and WAY more relaxing for our kind of boating. Thanks again for all the help with planning our weekend and we'll probably make a long weekend trip again some time cuz it is a Fun Lake!!
