Clinton lake poker run ???

Is anyone planning another poker run for Clinton Lake this spring ?

Knot 4 Me 04-04-2013 01:27 PM

No talk as of yet about a 2013 fun run. I know there was a geat turnout last year (I missed it as I was in Clearwater) and for the most part our normal group enjoyed the extra boats. However, there were a few issues that might cause some hesitation in opening up the run again this year. I'm sure we'll be discussing it soon over a few beers on the dock as the weather is finally getting to where we can put boats on lifts. I'll put out a thread once a decision is made about this year's run.

Does Clinton Lake really have that many big boats that run it?? I know its not that big of a lake..I deliver water up there and I cross over it right down by the power plant of hwy 54..

Run was cussed and discussed over the weekend with 5/18 being the target date. However, few of our regular group could make the 18th so a date has not yet been agreed upon.

Good looking Magic running around the lake on Sunday. Don't see a lot of Wast Coast boats on our little pond.

Was there issues with the last event ? I thought it was great ..... but I did win best hand for around 4 bills.

There were only a couple of minor issues with the worst being someone telling the organizer's wife to "F off" after she politely told someone to turn down the rap music they had blarring next to a boat with kids in it. Not a good way to get invited back.

Haven't heard anymore on trying to figure out a new date. If one gets decided upon I will post it.

Does Clinton Lake still have their poker run??

Knot 4 Me 02-15-2017 12:34 PM

No. Never really was an official poker run. A group of us on Dock 3 used to organize a fun run that we would also draw cards on and split high/low hands at the end. It used to be just folks we knew and back in 2012 it was opened up to anyone that wanted to attend. Had a great turnout and was by most accounts a good time. We still have some performance boats on the dock (290 PQ, 33 Outlaw, 303 SR-1) and a buddy has a 24 AO cat. The Outlaw has Brad Smith power and the AO has an Eddie Young blown 540. 303 has 489's by Eagle Machine via Myrick at PBC.

Yes, there is a place called Boondocks that is located in the State Park (Mascoutin) by the boat ramp. It has its own dock with a couple of slips or you can use the small drop-off dock nearby. I would not tie up to the loading/unloading dock for the ramp and go eat unless it is thru the week and not much ramp activity. Mascoutin can be a cluster to launch at so I recommend launching at the marina. It is a 5-wide ramp that is protected and has drop off docks on either side. $5 to launch but there is plenty of trailer parking whereas Mascoutin can fill up quick on busy weekends. Coming from Springfield you can just run straight over on 54 and then split off onto 10 as you are exiting town to the East and that will take you towards the marina ramp. The turn towards the marina is located right next to the big red storage buildings to your right once you go past the lake.

We would participate if a run were to be organized this year. I remember the run being conjured up on Dock 3 about a decade ago after several beers. We participated in the first few runs (2007-2008?) and then sold our boat. Clinton Lake is a neat lake. As Beadman mentioned above it's only a 4900 acre lake. The water is a tad dirty and warm (nuclear power plant reservoir) however it's a potpourri of cool boats. On any given weekend you'll see everything from beautiful sport cruisers, Carver, Cobalt, Rinker, Baja, an assortment of houseboats, performance boats all over the spectrum from vintage jet boats, a few V-drives, even fewer small outboard cats (a few are wicked fast) and the usual suspects on Dock 3 (33 Outlaw 1300HP-Booty, 303 SR1 1100HP-Jimbo, PQ 29-Wally, Rinker 272 Captiva-T-Dub, and a Chaparral-Beadman). I don't want to leave out the competition ski boats as we have a great Mastercraft dealer nearby in Farmer City "Liquid Edge" that continues to supply Clinton Lake with the baddest ski boats Mastercraft has to offer every year. Last but not least the lake sponsors angler competitions and sail boat racing so there is something for every type of boater. I'm all for a Clinton Lake fun run in 2017!

Sounds like the perfect thing for Knot to organize this year.:asskiss:

Knot 4 Me 02-16-2017 09:49 AM

I did that in 2012 and then couldn't attend as I was in Clearwater! You know things are with the local boating group. Cat herding...
