Channahon to Chicago by boat

How long would it take to get from Channahon to Chicago by boat? Will be going 50 mph. In Chicago where could I keep the boat at? Where would hotel be that's nearby?

i made the trip last month for the air&water show,i got a slip at 31st harbor.the illinois river is no wake from brandon rd lock until you get in the chicago ship canal.i would plan 6 hrs minimum but probibally longer depending on barge traffic and lockage time.it took me 10.5 hrs to get there and 8 hrs to get back, but in non no wake areas my cruiser only travels at 9 mph.

I would trailer... I have never done it. But what have been til if ya don't have a cruser it's a long ride home. Had a friend butcher a prop and have to get towed back.....in a storm. That story killed any idea I would ever have of making the trip without adquite boat

Hey MIKE TKACH, thank you for letting me know about how long it would take and where to have my boat at.

I forgot to mention what are the hours and cost for the locks?

mike tkach 10-06-2013 08:55 PM

lockage is free but they take the barges first, pleasure craft is last on the list.

Hey Mike, thank you for letting me know about the free lockage. Also would anyone know what time the Lock hours are?

I am pretty sure you can lock through 24-7-365. Always a good idea to get the phone numbers for the locks you are planning on using and call ahead to check if they are busy with barges.

Toss the lock master a 6 pack.... He will remember ya when your on your way back.
